I'm sure you all already know, but to reiterate the matter, yes - the current 158.xx series + GeForce 8xxx series + Windows XP is tantamount to a Half-Life 2 having rendering artifacts every which way and cold hangups... same with Episode One, though Lost Coast seems to be okay for the most part (outside of locking up now and then, but no rendering artifacts). Can't fathom why Lost Coast would work, as well as CS: Source and Half-Life: Source as far as I've tested but not the other games in question.

F.E.A.R. also has major issues that have been reported - the ones to accentuate would be dire FPS drops and rendering artifacts in my cases, as well as lock-ups. Red Faction as well, though that's a bit of an old game. Jedi Academy slows to a crawl with dynamic glow enabled. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. gives me a sating nv4disp.dll BSOD now and then and is quite slow, (unless static lighting is enabled), and there are general frame-rate hiccups, rather spontaneous and incessant ones in many another game to mention. DOOM 3 also has a problem, though... since it's only with two user-created graphical enhancement mods (one for stencil shadows, one for specular maps), I suppose it's not that big a deal - DOOM 3 generally runs well, as does Quake 4 and Prey. Oblivion seems fine as well, outside of some frame-rate hiccups that you'd expect on an 8600GT, I suppose?

Not to act as though I have a superiority complex over nVidia or something, but if I may echo my sentiment on the matter... I'm surprised they overlooked all this, as lots of folk out there still use XP and are waiting for a less precarious and more stable build of Vista, or just SP1....

Those are the problems I've experienced on my nVidia GeForce 8600 GT, again. I'm really hoping the next XP driver release will rectify all the aforementioned.

My card is a 320MB 8800GTS. CPU is a E6600.
With Oblivion, btw the only game I play, I get a huge drop in fps after some 10 minutes of playing, going from between 40 and 60 to between 15-20. Alt+Tab out and in the game again restores it for another 10 minutes. This issue is also discussed in other threads and forums.
Tried a XFX and a EVGA. Same problem with both.
Definitely NOT a power or a heat issue (card is 80*C under load and 600W psu). Clean install of Windows and have tried different drivers, always removing the old ones and running DCP.
Regret very much having bought a NVidia card this time.
This terrible bug still isn't fixed in the 162.15 WinXP set

Command & Conquer 3 as of XP driver version 158.19 and up Ultra Shaders do not display correctly. I think the same is true for Vista but can't confirm yet.

I thought I had been going crazy. I tried various drivers, lowered my overclock, underclocked (lol), clean install of windows, re-installed the game and yet eventually I just figured I would have to live with it. I should have read this thread sooner. I have this problem and I hate this problem. I could not figure out why the FPS drop like that for seemingly no reason. Heat no issue here as well as the system is in a cool basement and the GPU never even reaches 80c on full load. I think the ntune log had 76C as the max ever. Now I wish they would fix this in a future driver release.

Hello, I'm hoping this is the right place to post this here.

I'm having problems with a couple of games, such as: Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, some Source-based games.

In Battlefield 2/2142, sometimes my textures turn completely yellow, sometimes only a few things yellow - but then sometimes my entire screen turns yellow. When I press ESC to go back to the menu, I can see the buttons but everything else is grey.. if I quit the game, my computer pretty much crashes.

In Source-based games, I seem to get the traditional "black tears" in the graphics every once in a while in certain maps. Aside from that, I get the same problem as above. After this happens, if I try to exit the game my computer crashes. If it doesn't happen.. I'm lucky and I can quit the game without restarting my computer.

My ForceWare version is 158.22. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, with 1 gig of ram, and a 2.2 GHz single-core processor. The card is the 8800GTS 320 mb version.

(Oh, I'm getting a new motherboard, 2 gigs of ram, and a dual-core 3.0 GHz processor in a couple of weeks.)

Any ideas guys?

Probabaly just need to reinstall your video card drivers.
However you may as well just wait until you get the new hardware as you will have to reinstall windows anyway.

I just installed a 8800GTS 640MB and I have the stuttering problem in UT2004. It's noticeable in online play, especially on maps where you walk past certain rooms/scenes, such as the Bio area on DM-Waisten, the flak cannon hallway in DM-Corrugation, etc. The frames drop from 85fps (the cap) to around 60-70. That never happened with my old 7800GTX 256MB.

I'm on XP with 162.18 drivers.

Ever since I decided to build another pc around an E6700 and an 8800GTS/320mb, I haven't been able to play this 2002/2003 video game Cossacks "Back to War". Now it happens to be one of my favorite games, though it wasn't the one I was updating the pc to play. That was for the Warhammer MMO beta and Test Drive Unlimited, both of which work flawlessly for me.

But Cossacks BtoW and it's earlier versions, European War and The Art of War expansion, fail when the game loads, delivering a frozen page full of blocky artifacts and the message (about the game executable) "dmcr.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I'd heard it was a problem with any of the 8xxx series cards and drivers. The Cossacks forum mods say it's an nvidia driver problem for the 8x series and wait for a fix but I was just wondering if it's working for anyone else. I've tried the 158.22 and the 162.18 beta and released drivers.

Does anyone else have this game that has an 8800 and it works? And what driver are you using?

How do I know nvidia even knows (or cares) about the problem? Is there somewhere I should report it?

I really like this game enough I'd consider buying another 7xxx series card but I hate to do that. It worked fine with my 6800GT card in an old pc but I broke it taking it out. I'm just here hoping someone else knows about the problem and a fix. Any help appreciated.

And where should I be posting? Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I did a search for "Cossacks" in the forum and didn't get a hit.

And II - I swear if anyone with an nvidia corp tag contacts me, I will find a copy of Cossacks and send it to them so they can fix the drivers.
