Question 1.0-9629 1.0-9631 and 1.0-9742 serious problems on Fedora Core6

Running Geforce 7600 on Fedora Core 6.
I tried all relevant kernel settings described in the FAQ/stability problems (this forum), especially the noapic.
Also various drivers, either from nvidia.com or Livna repos.
I successfully ran Desktop Effects (Beryl, compiz, emerald) and enjoyed the fun with it.
The problem: games freeze or crash, details follow:
  • 1.0-9629 drivers:
games: armagetronad, quake3 and other requiring OpenGL or GLX run smoothly with the "nv" driver and mesa (but slow). After installing: from NVIDIA 9629 installer, games crash immediately the xorg 7 server and it restarts within 2 seconds. No error messages visible (for me). Livna repos drivers do the same. Beryl and desktop effects run great.
  • 1.0-9631 drivers:
Games: armagetronad runs fine now after installing from Livna repos (the kmod module and glx and opengl nvidia drivers). Games like neverwinter nights or quake 3 arena run for 20 seconds in the Opengl mode, then stop (like in a screenshot), music continues to play, mouse cursor stops, keys which are pressed during this "screenshot" phase got remembered and are executed after this strange freeze, which takes ca. 20-40 seconds. After that, 20 seconds of running the game, and again: freeze. If you let the game frozen, no keypress, the game stalls the xorg server totally, only hard reset helps (this happened ca. after 5 minutes?).
  • 1.0-9742 (beta) drivers:
the games crash the xorg server immediately after the game tries to start the OpenGL mode. Xorg server restarts normally within 2 seconds after that.

I`d love to play games, but this is driving me crazy. Is the hardware faulty? No overheating is occuring (I checked, the temperature is max. 60 C) I have decent 1 GB memory, Intel Core2 duo 2400 MHz. Power source 480 Watt, Windows XP is running good, games in Windows work properly, occassional random crash occurs when playing Flat out 2 with the latest windows drivers (like after 2 hours of intensive playing), which is probably the game`s fault.
Thank you for any advice.

I have a few questions:
0) Have you verified that you're using the latest BIOS?
1) Does this problem persist if you are not using the Composite extension?
2) Does this problem persist if you set RenderAccel to false in xorg.conf ?

Thanks,
Lonni

That was quick,
- Latest BIOS is active on my gigabyte DS4 motherboard
disabling the
Composite extension and setting RenderAccel to false did not help.
The same problems occured in games running with/in OpenGL.
Running Livna repos 9631 driver. The neverwinter nights game running on libSDL even froze the whole xorg server, so again, restart was needed.
Thank you very much.

Should I file a bug report?
Thanx,

You've already filed a bug report (above). I'm afraid that I don't have any other suggestions, and I'm not able to reproduce these problems here, so it seems likely that the instability is specific to your environment.
