Default second monitor screen flickering

hi there,

I have an irritating problem with the new nvidia linux driver (9625+): my second screen flickers (ie it turns completely black for a second or so and then returns to its normal state). It seems this happens when an OpenGL app is activated and it only applies to my second monitor (twinview). Haven't seen it yet in a normal single monitor setup.

At the moment I have this problem with both fc4 x86_64 and fc6 x86_64 both with the 9631 driver. Haven't seen this on Windows or with the older drivers.

One other thing I should mention is that I had to set UseEdid to false to be able to use my second monitor in the first place, also a new one with the 96xx drivers (as in it always just worked before).

I can post my config and nvidia bugreport if that helps.

Yes, please post a bug report.

I am having the same problem now, though I don't even have to start an openGL application :/ I didn't report it here yet... still investigating (ever since I plugged that FX6200 in).

Here's the bugreport, startx with logverbose 5 and nvidia-bug-report run after I started glxgears to first create the problem.

I don't know - you have to wait for Lonni .
He's probably gonna ask you to try without Composite,
to try the latest beta driver, to upgrade you mobo BIOS
and if you read all the sticky notes at the top, first.

Regards,
Alaric

Does this problem persist if you don't set UseEDID to false, and are not specifying alternative HorizSync & VertRefresh values?

With Edid my second monitor does not work, as I mentioned before. It appears the monitor returns bogus Edid info, although I'm not sure about that since it just used to work before I installed the 96xx drivers.

I'll try anyway (I can get 800x600)

I tried with this xorg.conf, the only way I could get it to work. Metamode "1600x1200, 800x600" does not work, with nvidia-autodetect I get this anyway :?

The problem remains

Does this also reproduce with 1.0-9742?
Does this reproduce if you're not using CPU frequency scaling?

Yes both. Note I can only set the cpuspeed to 2Ghz manually not completely disable cpu freq scaling, I believe this is buildin in my x86_64 kernel, at least I haven't found any loaded modules apart from cpufreq_ondemand.

I tried both with and without useEdid with the same results as before. The attached bugreport is with useEdid.

Are you able to disable Cool'n'Quiet in the BIOS?

If you're running X on just the 2nd display, does the problem still reproduce?
