Default Kernel module load error

Install problems. I'm tring to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9631 on Fedora core 2.6.18-1.2849.fc6
I have loaded the suggest rpms and still recieve this error message during the install.

Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'

Checked the log file for error and this is what I found.
Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting './usr/src/nv/nvidia.ko'

Not to sure where to go from here.

What is the output from running "modprobe nvidia" ? Please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log

I'm having the same problem and have been beating at it all day. I've searched all the forums here and tried everything I can that appears to relate to it.

I have an Intel RC440BX motherboard with nvidia Riva128zx agp on-board, so I'm using the legacy 7184 driver package. This is knoppmyth R5D1 (debian):

Linux muse 2.6.17-chw-8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Jul 30 12:38:47 PDT 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

I'm attaching the nvidia-installer.log.

"modprobe nvidia" returns "FATAL: Module nvidia not found."

TiA.

modprobe nvidia
FATAL: Module nvidia not found.

Since the install never completes the compile process I don't have a copy of the nvidia-bug-report.sh. I have attached a copy of the nvidia-installer.log file.

Ajshea,
The failure that I see in your log is:
NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!

Specifically which NVIDIA graphics card are you using? Does it appear in lspci output?

huntj,
Your failure is here:
nvidia: version magic '2.6.18-1.2849.fc6 SMP mod_unload 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.1' should be '2.6.18-1.2849.fc6 SMP mod_unload 586 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.1'

You're using a kernel with a different arch then your kernel-devel. This is actually a FC6 bug, which was discussed in several other threads on this forum. You need to manually install RPMs with matching kernel & kernel arch (i686).

Thanks,
Lonni

Yes, I have been searching for a solution to that...

According to the Intel docs:
Quote:
The nVidia RIVA128ZX graphics controller is paired with 8 MB of 100 MHz SDRAM video memory and features:
2x AGP graphics support
lspci says:
Code:
0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVidia /SGS Thomson (Joint Venture) Riva128 (rev22)
Thanks.

The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver does not support the Riva128 graphics chip.

What's the PCI ID (lspci -n)?

So do I have any other option besides buying a new graphics card?

Thanks.

Ah well, so much for that idea. Thanks for all the help, I think I've learned some useful things from this. Too bad the NVIDIA driver doesn't support this graphics adapter.
