Ok, removed and re-install the correct kernel-devel. The install still reports the same error message. Attached is the new log file.

The installer log that you attached is incomplete. I don't see any errors, or even confirmation that the driver was installed.

Which kernel-devel did you install?
What is the output from
ls -l /lib/modules/`uname -r`/

I did look at the fairly exhaustive list of supported GPUs at http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...DME/readme.txt and wondered at not seeing the exact GPU listed, so I guess I should have taken that warning more seriously.

Of course, if I had asked for help sooner I would have wasted less time, but then I always try to exhaust my resources before just blindly asking for help.

Thanks,

Original Messages: Install problems. I'm tring to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9631 on Fedora core 2.6.18-1.2849.fc6
I have loaded the suggest rpms and still recieve this error message during the install.

Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'

Checked the log file for error and this is what I found.
Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting './usr/src/nv/nvidia.ko'

[root@webserver log]# uname -m
i686
[root@webserver log]# uname -r
2.6.18-1.2849.fc6
[root@webserver log]# uname -a
Linux webserver 2.6.18-1.2849.fc6 #1 SMP Fri Nov 10 12:36:14 EST 2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

Not to sure where to go from here.

huntj,
Nothing has changed since my last comment. Your installer log is still incomplete, and you've not answered the questions I asked.

The build symlink looks wrong if you're running an i686 kernel:
build -> ../../../usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6-i586

I'd suggest fixing the symlink.

It looks like you're still using kernel-devel & kernel from different arches:

nvidia: version magic '2.6.18-1.2849.fc6 SMP mod_unload 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.1' should be '2.6.18-1.2849.fc6 SMP mod_unload 586 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.1'

Ok, but is there a command I can use to provide that information? So we can see what versions they both are?

Or what commands would be used to re-install the correct versions

This is covered in the FC6 release notes:

The install completed now off to Xconfig. The command to help clear up the mess was

rpm -qa --queryformat "%{na****-%{version}-%{release}.%{arch}\n" |grep -Ev "i386|noarch" |more

Only returns lines like this
glibc-2.5-3.i686
kernel-2.6.18-1.2849.fc6.i586
gpg-pubkey-a109b1ec-3f6e28d5.(none)
kernel-devel-2.6.18-1.2849.fc6.i586
openssl-0.9.8b-8.3.fc6.i686
kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.i586
gpg-pubkey-4f2a6fd2-3f9d9d3b.(none)
gpg-pubkey-1ac70ce6-41bebeef.(none)
gpg-pubkey-55f3aa6f-3e308e08.(none)

As you can see all kernel things are at i586. I'm just not sure if they should be 686 or not.
