Downloaded the latest Linux drivers from the website, and executed it. First of all, got told that I needed gcc (not installed with kubuntu) so I used apt-get to install it. Then ran it again. Got told of something else (can't remember what) so got that, installed it. Ran installer again. This time, got told I needed the headers for compilation. I'm at a loss. I'm sick of this crap. Just give me a damn DEB installer that detects whats needed, downloads it, and installs it. I've seen this done before a million times. I've even seen shell scripts to install stuff, written by just anyone. Why the hell can't you guys do it?
I use both Windows and Linux and I have to say, its crap like this that keeps Linux behind in the OS stakes. All I wanna do is get my resolution up beyond 640x480, because thats all the Kubuntu generic Nvidia driver can manage. |

(K)Ubuntu already ships their own packaging of the NVIDIA driver. You might want to try using that.

No, I meant the NVIDIA X driver, not the 'nv' X driver.

I've just tried changing the radio button from standard to proprietary in the KDE hardware tab for the card in System Settings > Display. Rebooted, got the NVidia logo up briefly, but still can't go beyond 640x480. |

You should see Ubuntu's support groups/forums for assistance using their packages. I can only provide assistance with NVIDIA's official packages.
If you want assistance changing the resolution, please start X with the following command: startx -- -logverbose 6 and then generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log. Thanks, Lonni |

apt-cache search nvidia will tell you the package name - I believe it's apt-get install nvidia-glx
