Recently I have many system freezes of my debian system. As I recall these problems started with 9xxx version numbers. All of my freezes are when I play some 3D game - I play only two - Quake 3 and Frets On Fire. Sound 'chockes' and loops last second while system is totally hunged up. I cannot SSH remotely and keyboard doesn''t respond at all. All I can do is push reset (ouch!).
This crash was done tonight. Programs running: in background: irssi, Kadu, XQF, TeamSpeak, in foreground - fullscreeen - Quake3. Please notice that I never had problems with Quake3 before. Below is nividia log attached, which was done after reset. |

I have a few questions:
0) Does this problem persist with 1.0-9631 and 1.0-9742? 1) Does this problem persist if you're using an official Debian kernel? 2) Does this problem only reproduce if you're running all of the applications you listed simultaneously? Specifically which apps must be running to reproduce this problem? 3) Does this problem persist if you set RenderAccel to false in xorg.conf ? 4) Does this problem persist if you set NvAGP to 0 in xorg.conf ? Thanks, Lonni |

I used versions: 8774, 8776 and 9629. AFAIR there was one-two random crashes on 8774, but already 4-5 on 9629 in 2-3 weeks. 1) Does this problem persist if you're using an official Debian kernel? I always used my kernel since I started to use linux. I didn't try official Debian kernel. 2) Does this problem only reproduce if you're running all of the applications you listed simultaneously? Specifically which apps must be running to reproduce this problem? It's very difficult to say as it's not deterministic. I always use irssi and Kadu. But other app combinations are random. Hang up always occurs when in fullscreen mode. Sometimes I can run system whole day without hang up. Sometimes it hangs after 30 minutes, sometimes after 2 and sometimes runs smoothly for 5 maps in Q3A. 3) Does this problem persist if you set RenderAccel to false in xorg.conf ? I didn't try. If it disables 3D functions I won't be able to try it in fullscreen mode. 4) Does this problem persist if you set NvAGP to 0 in xorg.conf ? I didn't try. What's the best suggestion to try now? Thanks, Tomasz |

Please perform the tests I suggested in my last post.
Also, disabling RenderAccel doesn't have any impact on 3D acceleration. See the driver README for the usage of RenderAccel. Thanks, Lonni |
