Running Kubuntu Egdy, last version.... my laptop is running ok with one of the two gpus integrated, the intel 915 (the one used for installing S.O).... but I wanna launch my nvidia, so....
1 - disabled module nv in /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common with DISABLED_MODULES="nv" 2 - confirmed no nvidia-glx or similar is installed... 3 - downloaded build-essentials, kernel headers, gccs and others... allright. 4 - retarted system and switched to nvidia chipset (my mobile has a switch)... 5 - executed the installer... NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9631-pkg1.run 6.1 - first of all, the installer told me: WARNING: You do not appear to have an NVIDIA GPU supported by the 1.0-9631 NVIDIA Linux graphics driver installed in this system. For further details, please see the appendix SUPPORTED NVIDIA GRAPHICS CHIPS in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com. 6.2 - about try to compile kernel mod.. but fails..... but I think its not the compilation.. mmmm 7 - the error is quite amazing for me..... I dont really know what to do... it seems like my device is not recognized... I attach log at /var/log... you can see the compil. is done, but what is the problem supposed to be... Code:
-> done.
-> Kernel module compilation complete.
ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most
frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s).
Please see the log entries 'Kernel module load error' and 'Kernel
messages' at the end of the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for
more information.
