Default Computer Hang with Nvidia fx 5500 and Gentoo

Hello everybody, this thread comes from another one from Gentoo Forums (http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p...8.html#3773958) so you can go through it in order to get the neccesary info. Notice that, at first I got a 104 error with a 2.6.18-r3 Kernel with agpgart and intel_agp built-in. Later on, I compiled 2.6.18-r4 with agpgart and intel_agp as modules and I also added Vesa capabilities. At the end the 104 error has dissapeared in favour of a computer Hang (I need to push the power button in order to rebbot).

I attach the result of nvidia-bug-report.sh.

Thanx in advance!

PD: Sorry for bad english

I have a few questions:
0) If you build a kernel without agpgart & intel_agp support, does this problem persist?
1) Does this problem persist if you set NvAGP to 0 in xorg.conf ?
2) Does this problem persist if you install the official NVIDIA driver package (instead of the Gentoo package)?
3) Does this problem persist with the 1.0-9742 driver?
4) Does this problem persist if you're not using any console framebuffer graphics support (vesafb)?

Thanks,
Lonni

Hopefuly, I managed to get the Nvidia 1.0-8* drivers working!

I did the following changes:

- I made a deep cleaning in my system, deleting every single Nvidia related stuff.

- I recompiled my Kernel without any graphic nor character device support (so I left both sections literally blank).

- I reemerged Mesa without any flag.

- I reemerged my xorgserver with nvidia, mouse, keyboard and xorg flags (wich compiled nvidia-drivers itself).

That did it!

Thank you very much for fast support!
