Stop reinstalling Mandriva just because the 3d desktop doesn't work or fails,
it's really an exercise in futility.

You can use Mandriva Control Center right without the GUI to turn 3d desktops off and on and make well any changes,

$ su
# mcc

as well you can easily backup and restore your xorg.conf (/etc/X11) file to restore any changes you've made then restart x

$ startx

I'm preety sure you've missed something. Mandriva's way of installing nVidia drivers is quite simple and provides all compatability to get OGL stuff working.

Make sure you are using the nvidia driver in xrog.conf.

Logs you can find in /usr/var/logs/

my problem now is, i went into XFdrake and changed my monitors resolution to 1600x1200 16 million colors, which i know my monitor suports, then it asks me to restart x, so I do. Then it gives me an error like "/home/russ/.Xathority could not me written, No changes where saved." then when i try to start x back up it gives me another error. "xauth: error in locking authority file /home/russ/.Xauthority, connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server."

You must run as a root XFdrake and reconfigure you graphics card to use nvidia's proprietary drivers.

I tried, but I received the error:

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure
(EE) NVIDIA(0): that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and

Try to change some parameters"

But which parameters must I change?

If I change (in Section "Device", "xorg.conf") driver "nv" in driver "nvidia" I receive a not-found error

(in my Mandriva 2007 Free, GPU GeForce 7600 GS, I have installed the "nvidia-8774-4plf2007.0" rpm).

Can you help me, please?

Thank you

The error I receive when I change driver="nvidia" in xorg.conf is:

"NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidiactl (No such device or address)"
and
"Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system"

But I'm sure: I have a Nvidia Gpu (GeForce 7600 GS)

what is the meaning?
