Default available resolutions wrong

i have fresh Fedora Core 6 system with 9631 and GeForce 7300LE 128MB,
pci-e. it works fine with
my old 1280x1024 LCD but i recently booted with my Panasonic
1280x720 (AE900U) projector and it only comes up in 1024x768 at 50hz
and lists (in system/preferences/resolution) a bunch of even
lower resolutions. it worked fine with FC4 and the previous
version of the NV drivers. advice please?! i have a show tomorrow!
many thanks.

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

bug report is attached. before i generated it i tried messing with nvidia-settings
which was able to set the resolution but not the refresh rate (which is at 50
instead of 60). thanks, -spot

ps. it would be nice to include instructions for "init 3" with your "startx".

Are you aware that no EDID is being detected on your CRT?

Also, if you're trying to run 1280x720@60, you need to request that mode. Currently the only modes that you've requested are:
"1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

How or where are you determining that you're not getting 1280x720@60?

no i never heard of EDID but i just wiki'ed it. there were no error messages -- how was i supposed to know this? i'm using a Panasonic AE900U (16x9) projector. it worked fine with FC4 and a previous NV server. why wouldn't it be detected??

I am getting the resolution i want (1280x720, 1280x768, etc) with nvidia-configure but the refresh rate is wrong. I can tell because the screen resolution preference widget reports it at 50hz and the image is shifted left: there is a black bar on the right and the left 10 pixels or so are truncated. the vertical is off a bit too.

Without seeing a bug report from when it worked, I can't comment on why.

Without the EDID, you're going to have issues getting a perfect image, since the driver has no way of knowing what your CRT prefers. The best that you can do is trial & error with xvidtune and/or modelines from gtf. You might want to try commenting out the MetaModes line in xorg.conf, and just requesting a "1280x720_70" mode (which corresponds to 1280x720@70Hz).

Thanks,
Lonni

It is a HDTV 720p device. When you want to use 60Hz refresh try this modeline:

Modeline "1280x720p60" 74.11 1280 1392 1440 1648 720 723 725 750 +Hsync +Vsync

i uninstalled the nv server and it worked correctly,
but i can't generate a bug report because removing
the package also removes your bug tool. i could
send you the log from the x server or other info
if you can tell me where to find it.
