I was wondering if anyone would be interested in running a FRAPS based benchmark in Need for Speed Carbon so we can compare graphics cards? I think it would be nice to see how the whole range of Geforce cards run in this game since it definitely slows down most cards.
If you setup FRAPS to record the MinMaxAvg and stop automatically after 90 seconds you can get a pretty good idea of how it performs on your system. What I did was choose the very first race in the Quick Race section and then start the recording as the GO screen appears. If you drive the race not trying to be super fast the recording will end just before the end of the race. The first race is a Speedtrap race so there's no other racers and you get pretty good repeatability from run to run. I'm at work now but I'll post my results when I get home tonight if anyone is interested in doing this. I'm looking to upgrade my system in the next few weeks so I'm trying to get some numbers for a game that really slows down my 6800GT based system. I'm still on AGP and am thinking about a 7950GT or 8800GTS upgrade. |

Here's my FRAPS benchmarks before and after installing the new beta drivers. I was hoping the new drivers would speed the game up but as you can see the new drivers didn't change it at all. I did two runs before and after installing the new drivers.

Here's the last one I did. It was one of the quick races. Max settings except motion blur was off. It's the whole race.
2006-11-22 14:38:52 - NFSC (97.02 drivers) Frames: 7702 - Time: 119170ms - Avg: 64.630 - Min: 45 - Max: 80 |

What resolution were you running?I added game settings to my benchmark post this morning. I just recorded an entire race with other cars. 2006-11-30 06:18:36 - NFSC (Sprint: Dover and Lepus - Fourth Quick Race) Frames: 3326 - Time: 101008ms - Avg: 32.928 - Min: 20 - Max: 43 Last edited by technoid; 11-30-06 at 06:30 AM. |

I'll have to check and possibly redo it. At one point I was using a hack so I could run it at 1920x1200 but those results might have been 1600x1200. I can't remember. I'll try it again tonight to verify.

The last one I think was at 1600x1200. Here is one at 1920x1200 with one of the resolution hacks. All settings maxed except motion blur off. This was the first quick race (circuit) using the default Mustang.

Game Settings (ALL MAXED except AA set to Off)
1024x768 AA = Off Filtering = Anisotropic Shader Detail = HIGH V-Sync = Off World Detail = High Road Reflection Detail = High Car Detail = High Car Reflection Update Rate = High Rain = On Visual Treatment = High Motion Blur = On Particle System = On FRAPS Results: Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 4516, 90000, 36, 87, 50.178 Tested on Quick Race (Number 8) My System: Athlon64 3200+ @ 2,4 Ghz 1 GB Ram Radeon X1950XT 256MB DDR3 Topower 420P5 I noticed that the SHADER DETAIL option is very important when benchmarking. When going from MEDIUM to HIGH, frames drop a lot, that's why I thing we should all test the game with SHADER DETAIL set to HIGH, so as to get representative benchmarks. It's also important to use a "CITY" track than a "CANYON" one. When riding a city track the graphic charge is quite bigger. For example, when I benchmark on a Canyon track I get this results: Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 5846, 90000, 39, 90, 64.956 As you can see, performance is much better. ![]() |
