Hi,
I'm running 5.5 and I get an error when trying to start X. NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidiactl (No such file or directory). (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure (EE) NVIDIA(0): that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and (EE) NVIDIA(0): that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly. (EE) NVIDIA(0): Please consult the NVIDIA README for details. (EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting *** However when I load the nvidia.ko module it reports: nvidia0: <GeForce4 MX 420> mem 0xf3800000-0xf387ffff,0xf4000000-0xf7ffffff,0xf2000000-0xf2ffffff irq 16 at device 0.0 on pci1 I'm running, Xorg server 6.9.0 revision 5. Why isn't the device file created? / Jimmy |

I do not know what really cause the problem, but after doing cvsup, "make world" and reinstalling the nvidia-driver it works again.
