I currently have Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 LTS installed on a compaq presario V3000.
I installed the 1.0-9755 version, and it installed wonderfully at first. Upon rebooting however, I encountered these problems: 1. A blue screen comes up stating X cannot be loaded and takes me back to prompt 2. "NVIDIA kernel module has the version 1.0-7174 but this X module has the version 1.0-9755" at this point I have to re-install the 9755 drivers every time I boot in order to get into gnome. 3. Upon installing the drivers the shut down menu has lost its shut down and reboot buttongs, and only gives me log-out, lock, switch user, and hibernate as options. Any help would be much appreciated. |

Follow every step of this howto:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthre...t=nvidia+howto I would bet you did not clean out the old driver fully. |
