Question Does not build NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8174-pkg2.run, kernel 2.6.17-custom

Hi there, i have just installed Debian Etch, compiled a custom kernel...
But when i tried to install nvidia drivers for 3d acceleration, i get an error:
ERROR: Unable to build the NVIDIA kernel module.
I checked the log, and the README, but did not find any solution.
Compiler: gcc version 4.1.2 20061028 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-19)
The /var/log/nvidia-installer.log is attached.

Maybe i should download newer version of the driver?
Attached Files
File Type: log nvidia-installer.log (9.7 KB, 126 views)

1.0-8174 is no longer suppported, please use 1.0-9631 or 1.0-9746 (depending on your hardware) and post an updated nvidia-installer.log file if the problem persists. Please also make sure that your kernel source tree is configured correctly (i.e. wasn't cleaned with `make mrproper`, etc.).

I did the following with the kernel sources:
Code:
# make menuconfig
# make bzImage; make modules; make modules_install

Successfully compiled and installed.
But now i run into another problem: sometimes as soon as gdm starts monitor goes into standby mode.
I tried to add this to my xorg.conf (section monitor):
Code:
    Option "DPMS" "No"
but this did not help.

You should probably start a new thread. Also see: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678
