My buddy recently lent me his PSX and a Copy of Xenogears... He insisted I missed out during my childhood.
Only four hours in right now... and every next step I take I keep getting more blown away how amazing this game is... Hell I'm playing it on a 29" inch tube TV and its loads better than anything square has released in the last five years. What the hell happened?! btw if you haven't played Xenogears and you're a RPG fan... get on it NOW

Squaresoft never appeared to have recovered from the Final Fantasy Flop movie which nearly bankrupt them.
Currently, it also appears severely mismanaged. They have so much great IP, yet use virtually none of it aside from FF. Heck they could make a boatload of cash just releasing some updated multiplatform XBLA/PSN/Wii Store HD versions of Final Fantasy 1-10, plus HD remixes of all those great PSX and SNES RPGs. But instead they sit on the IP as their company bleeds to death. They need to embrace multiplatform with all of their IP - old and new - and fast if they want to survive. Though Sony's investment in the company may be holding them back from doing so...

FF7 happened. Then they realized that they could never make a game just as good or better than it. Jusssayin.

It was pretty much over for them after Xenogears, and the final nail in the coffin was the merger with Enix in 2003.

Heck even Final Fantasy XIII wasn't horrible, yeah it was long winded but it wasn't bad by any means. |
