Unhappy X11 logouts, OpenGL apps segfaults, NVRM: Xid

Hi!

I have very annoying problem. My X session logouts randomly from time to time. All OpenGL apps terminate with Sgfault and some times my system freezes. I'll provide all informations that I have and witch may be helpful...

I have stable (installation from official manual) Gentoo 2006.1

GeForce 5200 FX 128 MB
Dual Channel 2x256 MB of RAM
Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton)
ASUS A7V880 (VIA KT880)

AGP is set to 4x (8x is even more unstable)

when X logout: http://two.xthost.info/endrju/Xorg.0.log.old
kernel config: http://two.xthost.info/endrju/config-2.6.18-r4
X config: http://two.xthost.info/endrju/xorg.conf

I tried setting various options (RenderAccel on/off, AGPFastWrites on/off etc.) but with no results

software:
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9742 (I tried 8xxx, same effect)
x11-base/xorg-server-1.1.1-r1 (I tried older ver., no effect)

tried kernel 2.6.18 and 2.6.17, same results

sometimes not only ogl apps segfaults it happens to Firefox or Audacious

every ogl apps segfaults with signal from libGL.so (nvidia glx)

I tried other card (gf fx 5200) with the same result, so I think this is software problem...

Code:
Portage 2.1.1-r2 (default-linux/x86/2006.1, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r4, 2.6.18-gentoo-r3 i686)

Have you verified that your RAM isn't faulty?
Does this problem not reproduce with the 'nv' or 'vesa' X drivers?

If this problem also reproduces with 1.0-9746 please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

I wrote that, RAM is ok, memtest86+ finds no errors and there is no oops messages or something like that... (yeah I saw one, all lines were filled with nvidia module errors)

imo there will be no problem with nv driver, but I have to verify that... (and switch to xorg-x11 opengl interface)

and log file

[edit, ok I'll post results after upadte (and new log )]

1.0-9742 is no longer supported. Please retest with 1.0-9746.

Thanks,
Lonni

I don't see the 1.0-9746 installer log in your bug report. How did you install 1.0-9746?

# emerge nvidia-drivers

only clean way in gentoo linux...

ebuild: (some kind of installer) http://gentoo-portage.com/AJAX/Ebuild/39055/View

Unless this problem persists with the official NVIDIA driver package (instead of the ebuild), this looks like a known Gentoo ebuild bug that I've seen others report.

how can it be ebuild problem if every version dosen't work now while it works with 8xxx 2 months ago? (yes, it has been working, this wole thing appears after big system update (xorg, glibc, gcc, kernel etc.))

anyway, can it be mobo problem? or power supply?

ebuild does it in "official nvidia way" but it does it automatically for me, this problem exist in some software, not in installation method :/

If you're not able to test with the official nvidia driver package, then you'll need to regress through everything else that has changed since the problem was triggered.

"from //usr//lib/opengl/nvidia/lib/libGLcore.so.1"

I'm not the one who compiled this, so how can it be problem of my gcc or glibc?

ok, maybe xorg, I have tested every available version of server...

or maybe kernel? I tried both .17 and .18: the same

what does this numbers of NVRM Xid errors mean? (6, 23, 1...)

You shouldn't have any issues switching from the ebuild to the driver package btw, I have had no issues with either one that weren't also found in the other. The only issue I did have with the ebuilds was with 9742 and this was due to the libwfb module not being loaded (it was a new module so that shouldn't be a surprise). The ebuild actually downloads the same exact package that nvidia is wanting you to get it just does the installation by script since that package will make you log out of X, etc. which the gentoo ebuild does not require.
