Sure, I have a few pics. Let me know if you want something more detailed. The stand is the Samsung Stand for the HLSxx87W/HLSxx88W series... AFAIK, the 87 series has a SILVER bar under the Samsung name and where the buttons are. The 88 series (mine) has a glossy black metallic finish.

I'm also including a VGA vs. Component @ 1080p compare shot... The first compare shot is component, second VGA (also embedded in the names).

Also of note: I've noticed that the VGA seems to have "noisy" blacks (I have the MS VGA cable), whereas the component looks fine. This is noticable in dark scenes; dark backgrounds look grainy... For example, the opening title screen for Lego Starwars II, the starfield background looks much better with component than with VGA.

I also want to mention that the "trapezoidal" effect I was seeing with the VGA input is present on both VGA and component. I was just more sensitive to the VGA because the image was underscanned...

The image is tilted about 2/16ths of an inch from one side of the screen to the other (width-wise).

Is this correctable with the TV image controls? Try to take a picture in the dark with no flash so that we can get a good idea of the PQ on the Sammy.

Not sure; I'll have to dig around the menus/manual tomorrow and check it out...

Here is a pic of a scene in King Kong HD-DVD (keep in mind this is a point-and-click camera, everything auto except ISO set to 400, flash off):

I'm trying to decide between a Sharp Aquos or or a Samsung. I have found models that will both do 1080p.

Samsung 40"
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsu...oductDetail.do

Sharp Aquos 37"
http://www.tristatecamera.com/lookat...ku=SHALC37D90U

Not sure if I would shop at Tristate Camera or not.

TiKi stay AWAY from Tristate Computers!!! Nothing but nightmare stories with that place. Refer to this LINK for details. As per buying an LCD TV the rule of thumb is if the price is similar then go for the bigger screen! Also pay a visit to the AVS forums and read up on the particular models you're interested in.

What I love about digital rear projection TVs is that amazing black level. With the proper room lighting the PQ comes very close to the best tube TVs had to offer. I'm seriously considering buying a Sammy DLP soon. That old Wega in my house needs to go!

thanks for the heads up i was under the impression that the 50" xx87w model was only a 1080i display, that's why i was looking at the xx88w. I realized that the site i was on had some misinformation on both displays after viewing the actual samsung spec sheet.

Yeah I think the 88W has PIP also while the 87W doesn't... so I would get the 87W because PIP is useless for me.

Yeah, That's one of the reasons for my deciding on DLP; I didnt need the expensive form factor of Plasma/LCD, but I get awesome screen size and contrast at an affordable price

Actually, I'll have to admit; this set has noticable picture improvements than my older HLR set. Gaming is good, as long as I keep 720p/1080p set on the xbox360. I hate what "gaming mode" does to the picture, so I tend to just play with the lag while I use 480p/480i games...

For me, it was between this and the Sony XBR2 60". But I couldn't justify the huge price difference for similar (showroom) quality (IMO) and the extra 4" of diagonal real-estate -- especially since I got the samsung with free shipping and free stand. Plus, with all of the 1080p problems I've been hearing over at avsforum with the Sony sets, I decided to steer clear of the Sony.

Let me know if you want any more pics.

No, xx87w models are 1080p for sure. But like Mr. Hunt says, the only differences are in the TV coloring and features such as PIP and cablecard. Let us know what you decide!

its funny that sony sets are having issues with 1080p considering they are championing it with the P$3
