Default Custom modelines with nvidia TV-out

Hi All,

I've spent a bit of time working on this and looking around without resolution. I'm trying to hook up a linux-box for a HTPC using an 7300 GT to my TV using the Component out YPbPr dongle which comes with the card and attaches to the S-Video out port.

The complication arise in the fact that my TV's native resolution is 1366x768, which is not one of the standard modes from the modepool of the TV-out (as observed using the verbose output from startx).

So is it possible to create a custome modeline for use with the TV-out function? From the nvidia documentation I'm a bit skeptical, but if anybody knows the definitive situation I would be glad to get confirmation.

Also, if its not possible to do it this way, how about a converter which takes the DVI-out and converts it to component video?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

No, this is not possible.

You have two methods to choose from:
1. use TV-out, as you do now. you will be bound to the limited resolution options of TV-out.

2. use a computer-type connection instead of TV-out (VGA or DVI). then you need a TV with such an input. you may be able to drive it at its native resolution, but don't count on that beforehand. a lot of TVs have no capability to display at native resolution, but only at TV standard resolutions.

Thanks for the reply pe1chl.

Unfortunately my TV doesn't have VGA/DVI input, so I guess I'll live with what I have until its time to upgrade

In that case there is almost certainly no way of driving it at its native resolution.
1366x768 is not a TV standard, and so it normally is not accepted at a TV-standard input (composite, S-video or component).

But beware that even sets with VGA or DVI input do not always accept the native panel resolution. There seems to be some fixation on "standard" resolutions like 1280x1024 in manufacturer's heads :-(
So when you want pixel-perfect display you have to check and double-check before buying.
