I think total player base is going to be a bigger factor in the long run over current sales trends. We just got over the holiday season where the main set of Blu-Ray players entered the market, so like others have said there was going to be a spike in BR sales.

Some of you need to stop being so short sighted and look at the bigger picture. There is still a long ways to go before this format war is over.

Almost forgot about this thread...

Well for the people that want to dismiss Amazon sales ,and think that only bluray users buy online.. Atlonxp1800 already posted sales figures of DVD empire ,which shows a clear lead for BLuray..

But for the skeptics... here are more sales numbers.. thx to N-D. of B3d for this..

The first two weeks worth of data seem to back up what many predicted — that the Blu-ray enabled PS3 is helping Sony quickly close the gap with HD DVD, with almost three Blu-ray discs sold for every one HD DVD during the first week of January.
a discussion...
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=798080

Quote:
* More than 70% of people buying a PS3 have a strong interest in acquiring movies for it.

* Until the PS3 was launched, software sales were probably three to one in HD DVD's favor.

* Once the PS3 came out, BD volume per title grew something like 700%.

Not bad!! 3 to 1. ANd with the limited supplies of the PS3. it looks like there will be more distance in the close future.

Does that count the copies of Talladega Nights that shipped with all PS3s?

Doubt that would matter since Talladega never really ranked that high in individual sales.

Right now is just Blu-ray's time to shine which makes sense since it has a ton of releases dropping. Casino Royale preorder went up on amazon.com yesterday and it broke the top 100 in a couple of hours....the movie doesn't come out till March, lol. Right now they have two in the top 100 according to that eproducts tracker.

No, not included any Blu-ray movies and PS3 games bundled with PS3, same thing with all consoles bundled games. DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-ray and games sales figures are matter how many people bought copies of it that go to top 10 best seller ranks.

No one is dismissing the Amazon sales

What we ARE dismissing is your choice to post a graph that had scales so DRASTICALLY biased to BlueRay it's disgusting

How about a graph that only shows two days worth of data.. heck in sales a month is nothing to speak of.

I love how after 6 months of HD DVD trouncing BD, BD's sudden almost catch-up to HD DVD is the end of the war.

Give me a break.

High-def player sales even, says NPD Group
Tight supply of Toshiba HD DVD models could be a factor
By Susanne Ault 2/2/2007

FEB. 2 | Despite price differences, high-definition stand-alone Blu-ray and HD DVD players are neck-and-neck in sales, according to the NPD Group.

Between April and December, 48% of high-def stand-alones sold were Blu-ray and the remaining 52% were HD DVD. Blu-ray stand-alones, including models by Sony, Samsung, Philips and Pioneer, are priced at about $1,000 and up. In contrast, certain Toshiba HD DVD models can be found for about $500.

One possible contributing factor to the results is that retailers have noted tight Toshiba inventory relative to the flusher availability of stand-alone Blu-ray players.

Also, there are more Blu-ray manufacturers than HD DVD manufacturers releasing stand-alone players.

NPD’s data excludes sales of high-def gaming devices, the Blu-ray-compatible PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360’s HD DVD drive. NPD plans to update this information on a quarterly basis
That said, I agree. It's too early to declare anybody the winner. But I do think it's kinda odd double standards for blu-ray supporters to get called out as being premature when the first 6 months of all this "format war" crap hd-dvd supporters were rubbing it in blu-ray supporters faces. I'm not naming anybody here specifically, most of them are on other forums and websites.

Anyways, As much as I love hearing the weekly/monthly numbers on the sales between them...we got a while to go before anybody is the clear winner.
