Default GeForce2 MX / MX400

Hello, is my GeForce2 MX / MX400 supported by the last driver (1.0-9746) ? It is written in the compatibility list but I can't have any 3D acceleration.
Is it my bad or should I use the legacy driver to have the 3D acceleration ? In that case will the legacy 1.0-7184 support 2 screens with different display on each ? Thx.

Best regards.

First I have to say, that I am quite new to the Linux world. I don't think that I can be of great help.
I only can say, that I do have the same graphics card as you do. I downloaded and installed 'NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86' (version: 1.0-9631)' and everything worked fine. I just followed the install-instructions (for openSuse). So 1.0-9746 should work.
I read somewhere that 'glxinfo | grep direct' will let you know, whether 3d is enabled.
I think you've tried already configuration with sax2 / NVIDIA X Server Settings?
nvidia-installer.log? xorg.conf? Xorg.0.log?

I hope you will fix your problem (with the help of one of these gurus here in the forum).
Above all I intended to give you a reply in case it takes longer until a pro writes you.

If 3d acceleration do work with the newest drivers I don't get what the legacy ones are made for.
Anyway I'll try to fix this myself, I'll come back if I can't. Thank you for your answer.
Regards

If you can write a post/thread, you should also be able to read sticky thread on the top of the page or something, don't you?

1.0-9746...
Please note: This NVIDIA Linux graphics driver release supports GeForceFX and newer NVIDIA GPUs, GeForce4 and older GPUs are supported through the 1.0-96xx and 1.0-71xx NVIDIA legacy graphics drivers.

Was I rude to get this kind of an answer ? If it is the case I apologize.
I had read the sticky, it doesn't provide an answer to my question.

If you do a

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746-pkg1.run -x
cd NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746-pkg1
cd cd usr/share/doc

and then look at the README.txt file under Appendix A. Supported NVIDIA graphics drivers, the GeForce2 MX /MX400 is listed at not being supported by the 9746 driver, and only supported by the 'legacy' 1.0-96xx line of drivers. this would be 1.0-9631, I believe.

Yeah, I think its a shame that nVidia has split out their driver into 'unified' and 'legacy' versions...
