"(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension" on GEFORCE 6200

been struggling over this problem for a week now:
i'm running a XFX nVidia GEFORCE 6200 on a ASUS P4S800 board, with driver ver 9746 (although i have tried 8776 and 7667O) and it freezes on X startup...
the log file says:
(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)
strangely, it seems to overwrite my xorg.conf file also..

i've posted the bug report generated after reboot, without starting X, hope it's right..
have anyone had this problem before??? if so, plz help!

Your bug report shows that the X server is using the vesa driver, which explains why GLX wouldn't load. I have no idea why your xorg.conf would be getting corrupted.

well, I followed your advice and tried to change config to use nvidia drivers, but I can't "convince" my xserver to abandon vesa and run nvidia...

even though I used this xorg.conf...

found the problem!!!

after googleing about, i found an article about an incompatibility between a module suplied in certain linux distros (agpgart) and some older Sis chipset motherbords: this is the solution:
add under the device subsection in xorg.conf
Option "NvAGP" "1"
add in the /etc/rc.d/rc.local, to be done on boot
modprobe -r agpgart
modprobe nvidia
