it is just a simple /24 private net on a vlan.

Which model of motherboard are you using?
How is this system connected to the rest of the network?
Does this problem persist with the newer version of forcedeth that I referenced?

a bit of an update.
went to our datacenter today where the box is..
2 ethernets
2 vlans
eth0 vlan0 - external
eth1 vlan1 - internal
eth0 is fine.
eth1 has private address but can not ping internal. i can assign it an external address, (ON INTERNAL VLAN) and it can get out to the real world on it, and i can come in from the outside on it..

any ideas???

even compiled 8021q in kernel and set traffic on eth1 to that vlan id..

PMBI but this is the most relevent post I have seen to my problem, which seems similar to CK's...

I'll try to figure out the 1.21 update but it's not clear there's a rev for Fedora Core 6. I only have this problem with kernels 2.6.19.x not 2.6.18. This is x86_64 on M2N32-SLI mboard. cat6 cable to a Netgear WNR854T (192.168.1.1). Then again to my PVR. Copying from PVR kills network at about 4-800 MB. that's the gigabit part of my lan

cat5 to a 100/baseT hub and to another FC6 box. Copying files from there is no problem.

re: "ethtool -i eth1" and "route -n" ?

What is the output from dmesg when the network appears dead?
Please verify whether this problem persists with forcedeth 0.59 (in 2.6.20) or forcedeth-0.60 (in the 1.21 driver package).

I'm still working on the update. The URL you posted provides for FC5 but I need FC6 x86_64. Should I install the rpm for FC5? Do you have an alternate URL?

The updates-testing repo does not yet show a kernel 2.6.20. Whle I'm awaiting your reply I'll build one from kernel.org. Will that provide the info you need?

note: I've tried this with vmnet unloaded (using services control)

running version: 0.60-Driver Package V1.21. copying 4GB from PVR whle using vmware and vnc (route to WAN) and no problems now.

The target is 512K in size compared to the dist of about 70K. I tried strip but it then faile ELF test on load. How do I correctly strip this ko ?

The source for forcedeth is included in the 1.21 package, so you should be able to recompile it for your kernel.

I don't see anything related to forcedeth problems in your dmesg. The problem was present when you ran dmesg ?

How did you determine that the network was dead?
