Arrow NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9631 setup and Mandriva One 2007

Hi all,

I am sorry to bother you with this simple question but I am quite new to linux and I am not able to install the above mentioned driver on my system because it seems to have no "kernel source files" for my kernel (2.6.17.5mdv).

Can you tell me where I can find those files on my system or which package(s) I have to install from the Mandriva One 2007 installation DVD?

Following you can find the installer log file.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Hey Dark_Star

I came accross this type of error when trying to build some other packages. I think the error just means exactly what it says, that the kernel source isn't installed on the system. If you know for sure that the source is on your system you can specify the source directory when running the nvidia install script. e.g:

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746-pkg1.run --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux

If you don't have the kernel source, see if Mandriva has some sort of package manager (I am not familiar with Mandriva) and do a search for the kernel source that matches your kernel version. Mine is installed in /usr/src/linux-source... and there is a symbolic link from /usr/src/linux to /usr/src/linux-source...

I hope this helps, I am far from an expert. I am trying to get this working myself.

I'm not familiar with Mandriva One, but I under the standard Mandriva 2007 distro: You can either go to the Package Manager under 'Look at Installable Software' and type kernel-source in the search box or you can open a console window, enter super user mode and type 'urpmi kernel-source' .

Thanks to your kindest help, I was able to overtook the "kernel-source" problem, but I faced to another package problem.

During the installation, I got three more warning messages and because I am not able to deeply understand their seriousness, I decided to stop again the installation of the driver.

This time the log file is very long because there is the whole kernel module building and I decided not to submit it to you. Following you'll find the warnings.

Can you please tell me which package I need to install now and how can I find it?

Thank you very much again for the help.

I forgot to mention that recomended way of installing nVidia drivers under Mandriva is to add plf free and non-free repositories and run command urpmi nvidia(or nvidia_legacy2 for older hardware)

More inforamtion you will find there http://easyurpmi.zarb.org
