beryl black windows bug

I have tried dozens permutations of advanced beryl`s settings yet. Nothing helped to me
My friend who has the same notebook as I (asus a6jc Q003, nvidia ge force go 7300) told me he didn`t have any black window bugs. I installed nvidia driver from source. So I might try it too later. However I do not think it will bring some roses.

I specially choosed a notebook with nvidia graphic card, it was said to have better driver support in linux than ATI.
Yea, the installation was more easilyl, direct rendering after the first try. However what I did not expect was black window bug. I feel disappointed a bit.

@XomboX: try djdoo settings, posted above. They work for me (except backingstore)

The only drawback I see with such configuratuion is higher cpu usage, and under load moving windows becomes choppy (also mouse movement is not smooth).

AFAIK 32 and 64 bit in performance differs very little except for some floating point/precision calculations in normal desktop use it shouldn't differ. You can add more RAM to it too. But it must be something else that made your system faster, correct me someone if I am wrong. Anyway good that you feel it faster.

I'm going to try 64-bit soon (stil DL-ing dvd). Are there any special issues with nvidia 64-bit driver?

Nope, works just like the 32-bit one. Use the one from NVIDIA's website and install it yourself or with Envy 0.9.2 or higher. The proprietary driver is in the repositories, but I couldn't get it to work right in Kubuntu. Ubuntu with the gnome desktop has a wizard that can help, but I don't have that desktop loaded.

I have installed 64-bit opensuse in 2 PCs 1(2800+), 2(3200+) but both of them were using ATI cards. There were issues with the one card X1600 but ATI's driver (still) is a complete mess both in 32 and 64bit mode.

As far as I know Nvidia's driver has the same behaviour in 64 bit as it has in 32 bit mode (correct me someone if I'm wrong)

Always use first the classic .run file first not the drivers provided in repositories.
It's more certain that it will work and you can also tune xorg.conf automatically in installation.

A personal question Bob:
Why does so many people use Kubuntu-Ubuntu cause I found those systems basically very poor in software provided in their cd's and you don't have many options in installation too. You must be connected to the internet all the time to download thousants of debs to solve various dependences!! And also only KDE or Gnome? (You can answer me in private if you want in order not to comfuse the thread)

I am on a Dell Latitude D800. Graphic are on a GeForce 4200 Go Ti AGP8. I have Feisty installed and believe I will be sticking with this OS over years of being with MS.

My Desktop Effects are turned on and I experience Black Windows as described here and in other places.

Can anyone tell me if nVidia is really working to fix this bug? It is such a pain and it looks like it has been around long enough for them to have done something about it.

Try my suggestion settings in post#167! They may work on you too!!

As for Nvidia... after telling us not to use Beryl for not have the bug, SIlence dominates their posts!!
