Well, I have xid problem only with backingstore, nothing serious. I've red those threads and I think they are somehow damaged. I would return them to my dealer under warranty to get a new one (as I already did with previous gf - TV detection issues).

EDIT: about wiki, can't do it now, I'm a bit too busy with school stuff.

Lightbulb Re: beryl black windows bug

THE UPDATED #167 POST!!

So to make a resume after your really valuable feedback kriko and all of you guys:
The suggestion finally is:

With driver 9755 and older or 9631 legacy(no info about 7185)or betas 100(03,06) under hood...

First in your xorg.conf you should have the following options in order to run beryl best:

Under "Screen" section:

Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "True"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Option "DamageEvents" "True" ->(Jupiter1tx suggestion)
Option "UseEvents" "False" ->(also Jupiter's one)
Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
Option "BackingStore" "True" ->[Use this one with caution it may NOT work on all systems (freezes when load beryl-manager as kriko said) but give it a try cause it helps performance]

Under "Extensions" section:

Option "Composite" "Enable"
Option "RENDER" "Enable"

See my xorg.conf too!!

Second after rebooting or just logout->login(to reload the driver):
In Beryl's Advanced Options use the following setup:

"Texture from Pixmap" "Don't Use COW" "force AIGLX" "XGL binding" "XGL rendering or Indirect rendering"-> (test this one and see which of the two XGL or Indirect is the best for you)

If you have an AGP card add the following options in your modprobe.conf.local or any name this file has in your distro:

options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1 NVreg_EnableBrightnessControl=1 NVreg_DevicesConnected=1 NVreg_VbiosFromROM=1 NVreg_SaveVBios=1 NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0 NVreg_VideoMemoryTypeOverride=0 NVreg_NvAGP=3 NVreg_ReqAGPRate=8->(8=for 8X AGP, 4=for 4X AGP)

Copy them as they are they are typed correctly! For PCI-X cards I don't know maybe a friend with such card can adjust these options for PCI-X bus. Also try to use agpgart instead of internal nvidia agp if possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!: For beta 100 drivers if you upgrade to one of them and have beryl settings pre-setted from the previous driver as mentioned above you may face the bug!!
SOLUTION: Just switch from "force AIGLX"(all the others leave them as above) to "force Nvidia" and then back to "force AIGLX" and everything would be as with 9755 driver.

And by a high percent of success as far as I know until now the black window bug would have been gone and beryl should run smooth enough!

I'm waiting for your results!!

Jim

I have a gts 8800 320 and I installed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9755-pkg2.run.

I did the changes as 255.

1. many of the changes were already in the file
2. I only add
Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
Option "RENDER" "Enable"

I did not add Option "BackingStore" "True". I will as soon as I can test the system for a while.

I did all the changes in the beryl manager.

So far everything working ok including mythtv in one of the sides of the polyhedron.

Thank you for all these tips. Hope they work.

Glad to know that #255 post worked for you too my friend!!
To find out which driver you run just open a konsole window and type nvidia-settings to load the driver's setting applet or type glxinfo and you will find a line there with driver's version or open /var/log/xorg.0.log and nvidia module is mentioned with it's version!!

Add BackingStore!! If it works you will see noticable difference in overall performance in heavy work especially!!

Tell me the difference when you use it...
I think that my spended hours testing combinations and options gave useful results!! It's harvest time now... Give us as much info as you can!!

to terryxela:
Can you attach your /proc/driver/nvidia/registry file??
I 'd like to see how this file looks like in a PCI-X card... and edit post #255 Nv_reg settings for PCI-X cards also!!
