Does BackingStore work for you?
hm... is working well, i guess. my system crashed a couple of times when was idle (downloading torrents when i was sleeping), but i dont know if has anything to backing store. i'm more intended to believe that is the client torrent that crashed my machine, since azureus always warns me (in winXP) that he could not work well with nvidia chipsets =P

i'll try to remove backingstore and tell you guys witch one is running better here

When you go to sleep, open up a terminal, and execute:
Code:
#sudo tail -f /var/log/messages
Also download some kind of desktop applet that monitor cpu/mem usage, like AIO:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show...?content=24626

and leave it in visible are, so next time when it freezes, you'll see why (I discovered memory leak in Xorg shipped with suse that way).

Kriko do you face the sub pixel hinting AA fonts bug in KDE(very slow typing with anti aliasinged fonts) with your 6600 gt??
Cause maybe the new beta driver could help you and it works with the workaround too!! Maybe it would work also with BackingStore=on... Have you already tried it?

I did, but I cannot verify that now, because my kde 3.5.7 doesn't allow me to enable subpixel hinting (seems suse packaging issue).

I guess I have been very fortunate not to experience the bug.
But many of the users I work with in the Beryl/CompComm
community do have this bug. Since yesterday I have had two
people test with the new beta driver and as you all already
know the problem is still there.

I did however make some changes to my config and had another
user test this. After reading the readme file i have made the following
changes and everything is working perfectly fine with Beryl/CompComm.
Gentoo linux, Xorg-7.2, nvidia-driver-100.14.06

Option "UseEvents" "False" ## as per readme - This option must be either undeclared or false, in order to avoid periodic short-term freezes on beryl and other OpenGL intensive programs
No noticeable difference in performance when in KDE, 25k FPS.
I did notice a difference in performance with Beryl active. From an
avg. of 15k FPS it is now 18k FPS. Test were performed with vsync
enabled in Beryl but not Nvidia. FPS goes higher when setting Texture
Quality in Beryl to "FAST" but video quality "tearing" is degraded. Test
were performed with this setting on "BEST"

Hi Jupiter1tx! Welcome to our thread!

I 'll check out those 2 new options you wrote here:
Option "DamageEvents" "True"
Option "UseEvents" "False"
And report...

Have you checked opening more than 25 windows cause I think every nvidia user
faces the bug with nvidia mode and TfP!!
Also have you or any of your users checked my #255 post here??
What's that README you are writing about??

Thanks for info Jupiter1... I 'll edit post #255 properly...

@jupiter1tx: you have a lot of graphic ram, thats why you haven't hit the bug. Try to use a high resolution and open many windows as you can. My geforce 6600gt (128MB) on 1600x1200 hits this bug after just two fullscreen windows.

I'll try your extra options you provided here.

@djdoo: he's talking about nvidia readme

Heya djdoo, thanks for the link here.
I saw the black window bug a couple of times when i was using my
6800GS 256mb. I have since upgraded my hardware and, when i tried
to test for black bug, i couldn't get it. I opened about 15 firefox browser's
with about 25 tabs in each and about 10 konqueror sessions with about 10
tabs each. I then started Quake and played for a minute or two. Exited
the game and spun my transparent Beryl cube around a bunch. Then opened
a couple of more firefox windows and scrolled through the menus. The bug
never appeared for me. BUT i think it would have eventually popped up if
i had continued.

The readme file i referenced in my post is the Nvidia driver readme file.
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree8...hapter-23.html
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree8...hapter-09.html

You post #255 is excellent and i will be using it as a guide for our user's
Thank You.

Now that i am aware of this post i will continue to test each driver release
and report back what i and the user's experience.

Am using a 22" LCD @ 1680x1050

Cool Re: beryl black windows bug

Post #255 would not have been that complete and so detailed without your help folks!!!(Well still remains the NVreg settings for PCI-X cards to be filled...)

Thank You, All of You Guys!!!

Jupiter1 are you able to make a beryl wiki page in beryl's site with the instructions from post #255? (Note: Man you have a really huge video RAM!!!)
