Ok, with BackingStore my system produces XID errors, no matter what driver I use and now for some reason it freezes every time I switch from beryl back to kwin. Mouse is still moving around, ssh from second machine shows 100% Xorg cpu usage and I'm unable to kill it.

Thank You, All of You Guys!!!

Jupiter1 are you able to make a beryl wiki page in beryl's site with the instructions from post #255?
Well Beryl site is now dormant and all support for Beryl is done at the
merged site. http://www.opencompositing.org
We're still in the process of completing the merge and first release.
Once that is done we hope to get a wiki started, like the one we had
in Beryl. Your info will make it into the wiki for sure. Things are getting
pretty hectic with all the noobie users wanting to set this up and not
knowing basic Linux commands so the wiki will come in real handy for
me to point users too....LOL
Don't get me wrong here either, I still consider myself a Linux noob.
The difference is i take the time to read before i jump in or ask questions.

Just an old Windows Admin/Linux Noob

Hmm... I think that BackingStore is an Xorg's option not nvidia's driver that's why it is not mentioned in driver's readme and that's why is the same for ATI driver too!!
It's your Xorg server that has the problem not the driver or card I think ...(that's why 100% cpu)
Which version do you run?? And how did you installed it??

Aha! Freezes (when switching from beryl to kwin) are related to new beta driver, it works now (reverted to 9755). Nvidia do you copy?

I have xorg 7.2 from suse rpms.

All these without BackingStore I guess... With BackingStore in 9755 you can switch to kwin without XIDs??

I am just one of the original Compiz/Beryl users from day one.
And i work from home so have lot's of time on my hands to help.
So i got the prestigious "NOT" position of Team Member. Basically
to help users in the forum so devs can concentrate on dev-ing...LOL

The only developing i do is small block chevy 383...LOL

Oh I got it! But believe me your video RAM is really HUGE! Kriko is right when saying that your vRam keeps the black window away from you for so many big windows but 100% it will come at some point... When you edit many photos at the same time maybe...

Note: My PC is more than 5 times less powerful and expensive than yours! I have an old GF FX 5200...

Hello everybody and thanks for the great work.
I've ben silently watching this thread since the time Jupiter told me things were moving about the black window bug in this forum. Still didn't buy a video card yet but I guess the status of this thread means I can get less than the 256 MB you advised me
I really don't want to put that much money in a card I'll leave in my computer at work...

nvidia released another new driver a few days ago 100.14.06 - should I assume it still doesn't fix the bug?
