Default Re: 9746 console screen corruption.

the same here. laptop. ubuntu 6.10. fx6600 go.

when nvidia-driver 9746 enabled I get astonishing
beautiful colors, the show occurs when switching to console (ctrl+alt+F1,2,3,4,5,6) or killing xserver (ctrl+alt+backspace) or "/etc/init.d/gdm stop".
suspending (sleep) also gives me trippy colors and it does not work: login window appears or when it falls to sleep, than it starts up and screen is black and nothing works..., etc..
going back to drivers ver 8xxx is no option, because there screen stays just black when trying things mentioned above and is far more boring:
tryed all kinds of stuff, but no.
what should i do now?

Me too.

Setup:
Debian 4.0 (2.6.18-4-686) with GeForce Go 6600 (NV43, rev a2), driver version 9755.

Problem:
Switching to virtual console (Ctrl-Alt-F[1-6]) gives garbage. But you can work blind. Switching back (Alt-F7) restores X.

What I've tried with no success:
* boot with "vga=normal" kernel option
* boot with "vga=0x31a" kernel option
* boot with "pci=nommconf" kernel option
* build own kernel with all frambuffer things disabled
* disabled agp in xorg.conf

My questions:
* Does the nvidia driver restores graphics status when swithing to a text console? Seems to me like not.
* Is there a Option to tell the nvidia driver to restore a specific textmode when switching to console?
* Are there some console tools to set a special textmode in console (not the framebuffer)? With this i could workaround the problem by typing blind a command to set textmode.

Additional information:
* Driver version 8776 works with standard Debian kernel. But this driver can't handle wakeup from suspend-to-ram for me, so this is no option.
* When typing blind in garbage console und switching back and forth between X and console the system and/or X crashes. Sometimes i can remotely restart (kill) X and sometimes the complete machine hangs and i have to power cycle.
* Sometimes, wakeup from suspend-to-ram doesn't work, but most time it does.
* My normal setup is KDE with beryl. But for the tests i started plain X with only a xterm.

I supose the driver doesn't save some state of the graphics hardware. So I tried to disable all framebuffer things, but this didn't helped.

I've read a lot here in the forum but didn'd find a solution which worked for me. Maybee I've overseen something? Would be nice someone could give me some pointers.

thanksfully

100.14.11 does not fix this issue, in case you were wondering

I have similar issues with stable releases newer than 1.0.9631. I don't see funny colours but the screen remains black instead.

I'd suggest starting a new thread, as the problem you're describing is not the same as what others in this thread have reported. You should also read & follow the forum sticky posts.

I have this problem too on my Compaq Presario V6107AU that has an nVidia MCP51 chipset and an nVidia GeForce 6150 Go. Had this problem since last year with FC6 using the x86 kernel and drivers and with F7 with the x86_64 kernel and 100.14..09 nVidia x86_64 driver.

I just never bothered to look it up until now. At least now I know I am not alone.

Spoke too soon. I just saw that nVidia has released 100.14.11

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=92953

and it says:

* Fixed console restore problems in several different configurations:
o Quadro FX 4400 SLI
o VESA console
o Notebook LCD displays

... and indeed it fixed it!!! Thanks nVidia!
