I think setting my NB Voltage to 1.43 insured my PCIx16 link width wouldn't reset to 1x.

Basically with your Q6700, you should have a 9x multiplier option available.

So take 3.2ghz (3200) / 9 = 355 (or 356 if you round it)

I'm using the default vcore so it's still on "auto" and 3ghz is stable. I could possibly even lower the vcore, but haven't spent that much time with it.

The main thing, however, is that all hardware is different. You could have bad RAM, but a great OCing mobo and CPU, or have great RAM, but a FSB-limited mobo, so you just have to make sure all the pieces work together well.

When I built this PC, I bought some "slower" DDR2 667 RAM, but the thing is, it usually did better than most DDR2800 RAM and was more trust-worthy. Not only that, but it was the 10th anniversary Crucial RAM, so I got some "purty" blue heatspreaders as well with the RAM.

I can get mine to 3.6GHz but only for quick benchmarking lol. Here's my settings for stable 3.42GHz:

ASUS P5B-Deluxe

AI Tuning - Manual
CPU Frequency - 380
DRAM Frequency - DDR2 - 950 MHz
PCI Express Frequency - 100
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode - 33.33 MHz
Spread Spectrum - Disabled
Memory Voltage - 2.25V
CPU VCore Voltage - 1.45V
FSB Termination Voltage - 1.3V
NV VCore - 1.55V
SB Vcore - 1.50V
ICH Chipset Voltage - Auto

MRS - Disabled
CIE - DIsabled
Max - Disabled
V - Enabled
CPU- Enabled
Ex- Enabled
PECF- Disabled
Intel Speedstep - Disabled

Anything I could change to get 3.6 stable? I think I've pretty much tried everything though

My Q6600 G0 at stock is warmer than that, and im using a ultra 120 extreme which is a slightly better heatsink than the tuniq tower. Can you do me a fav and check your temps with both speed fan and intel TAT and report back.

GitDat:
I too was aiming for 3.6 i am able to get into windows as you are as well i imagine and start stress testing in orthos but it gave a calc error
I did get it stable as a rock at 1.55v however. But then it got too hot and the computer restarted

I think whats necessary is to do the vdroop pencil trick to get your vcore voltages more stable then we can use lower voltages but be stable.

Default Re: Kentsfield/Quad-Core Overclocking Thread

I have a Quad Core G0 Q6600 and would like some help just doing some minor overclocking:

Heres the setup

Q6600 G0
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) (PC2 6400)
Gigabyte GA-P35
Zalman Fan , idle at 44c 1300 RPM

Im new to the overclock, but essentially would like to see 3.0 GHz,

where should I start bumping stats up first?

EDIT:

I flipped through some guides, do some of the rules apply, apply for the newer stuff?

Should I lower memory frequencys first?
Lock PCI frequency clocks?

????? :O
