Default HDMI Cable for XBOX 360

A Dutch website is advertising an HDMI cable for the XBOX 360 will be available on Feb 23.

http://www.dimensionplus.nl/index3.a...asp?pid=780112

Is this legit? Any Europeans in here have any experience with this website?

There have been previous reports of sites posting HDMI cables for the 360 then withdrawing them later.

The big question on everyone's minds has been, can the current connector on the 360 output in a hdmi format?

You can currently connect a 360 via the VGA cable to a transcoder and have the transcoder output to HDMI. All it would take is a cable with some transcoding circuitry embedded in the part that plugs into XBOX 360 to permit it to output via HDMI. Possibly the XBOX 360 already has the capability natively to output a digital signal and the circuitry wouldn't even be required. It would seem kind of stupid for MS to have designed the 360 without that possibility for expandability as digital output already coming into vogue when the 360 was designed.

With so many rumors of an HDMI cable for the 360, and having seen MS deny so many rumors in the past that turned out to be true, I'm hoping this is one of those cases.

MS hasn't denied that the current 360 can output in that format, they haven't denied that there will be a dedicated hdmi port on a future 360. Generally MS hasn't said anything other than, we are always trying out new designs, and we do not have a hdmi cable at this time, which generally amounts to nothing either way.

Wasn't the problem having a digital output, which the current A/V port cannot do... I'm not sure I never really cared too much for HDMI ports as I have never seen the benefit, now that the 360 supports 1080p, and most TV's will only do 1080p over HDMI, I can see why so many people want one.

Even the new 360 with an HDMI port, I doubt we'll see it soon. MS will piss off a lot of people who bough the console over the holidays if they just release a new one in a couple months. I think earliest we'll see an HDMI-revisioned 360 is holiday 07.

and there has been no official word from MS on what the current one can and cannot do. Its just pure speculation at this point.

I'm sure Microsoft is aware of that and probably will have retailers accept old XBOX 360 Core/Premium to exchange newer with HDMI port, and few extras, etc. for additional cost ($100? depends on models). Microsoft wouldn't want to lose customers over PS3.

I wonder if two years protected plan from BestBuy will cover this...

If not just place your current X360 pressed up against a space heater till you finally kill it. Then bring it back, and hopefully they'll refund you with the newer one!

Providing a HDMI connection (or at least some form of digital output) would be nice for LCD flat-panel users. Yeah, I'm getting 1080p from the VGA port but it's blurry compared to the digital connection on my LCD. I have the same issue with my computers. I share a Dell 24" LCD but it's only got one DVI connection so one computer gets the digital connection, the other gets the analog VGA connection. It takes a while for my eyes to get use to the blur when using my 2nd computer (which uses the analog VGA port).

It's a little different on PC monitors though I noticed. Just like you, on my Dell 2005FPW, with a VGA it looks like blurry crap but on DVI it's sharp and vibrant. On my 32'' LCD TV it's a different story though.... for example, my cable box has a dvi out and a component out, at first I had it through component and then I bought a dvi-hdmi port and not much changed PQ wise. I'll still get an HDMI 360 when it comes out though, I wanna be sure to get the best PQ I can.

I wonder if it could be b/c my LCD flat-panel is essentially a LCD monitor (Westinghouse LVM-37W1), not really a TV, or maybe the vga port on the westy just sucks. I need to go back to component/1080i to compare b/c I don't recall it being quite as blurry as what I have now using the vga cable and 1080p.
