Unhappy Horrible 8800 GTS 3DMark06 score. Help!

Just installed an Asus 8800 GTS card in my computer.
However the benchmark score I got was absolutely horrible!
Now I know that a dual core processor would help a lot, but these score are way to low even for my processor, I think.
Any suggestions on what might be wrong would be hugely appreciated!!!

I'm willing to bet that it is your CPU that is bottle necking your new shiny 8800. I recently bought a 8800GTX and I suffered extreme slowdowns and low scores in 3Dmark06. When I replaced my Athlon 64 X2 dualcore 3800+ with a Core 2 Duo I gained more than 2200 3Dmarks and no longer suffered these horrible slowdowns .

Hmm... I guess I'll have to get myself a new CPU then...
The horrible thing is that I guess I'll have to get a new mobo and memory also. This new gfx card ended up costing me more than I expected!

They seem a little low. For comparisons sakes my amd 3700 running at 2750mhz gave me a cpu score of 1052. Same as yours pretty much.
But my SM2 was 3446
SM3 was 3550
So I got a little over a 1000 points more each with a somewhat equal cpu.

Now with a C2D at 3.4ghz gave me:
SM2 3753
SM3 3742
CPU 2875
Those are stock video card speeds too. Overclocked tacks on another 1000 for each sm test.

I can think of two possibilities.
1) Try reinstalling drivers or maby rolling back a set
2) You psu can't supply the power. It is only a dual rail. And doesn't look like you have the amps needed to power it.

Hmm...
I'd have thought that the Hiper would give me enough power.
Its SLI certified, and I have both rails connected to the card with dedicated cables. Unplugging the DVD and burner didnt do anything either.

Is there any way to determine if the card is getting enough power?

I tried running the tests at 640x480 instead, and noticed for Return to Proxycon that the frame rate initially went up to 40-45, but dropped to the same low 10fps I get in higher resolutions when the troops exit the shuttle. Not sure if this gives any indication on if its only the cpu, or if the power is involved?

I might have found the reason for my poor performance.
The Everest beta that supports the 8800 reports that my Memory Bus clock is only running at 396Mhz instead of 792Mhz. Giving me half the BW I should have!
Not sure what causes this though. The motherboard, or a defective card?

Motherboard is an ancient Intel D925XECV2. Card is an Asus 8800 GTS

No your memory is running at the right speed. It is DDR, same as DDR motherboard ram. You take the speed, times it by 2.

IE: 800 mhz ram is really 400mhz x 2.
Same with a C2D, cept that is quad pumped. So a C2D fsb running at 1066 is actually running at 266mhz x 4.

And even if your ram was running at half the speed. You wouldn't see a huge drop in fps at a low res like you are seeing.

I've looked at other peoples Everest reports and they report:
Real Clock 792 MHz (DDR) (original: 792 MHz)
for the 8800 GTS
mine reports
Real Clock 396 MHz (DDR) (original: 792 MHz)

[EDIT] I just got a reply from the excellent people at lavalys that makse Everest.
It was a bug in the beta version of the software I used that made my card show up with incorrect speed. It has been fixed, and the new version shows the correct results, Real Clock 792 MHz (DDR) (original: 792 MHz). So while it did look like a problem it wasn't.
Hopefully my new C2D and 680i will give the card a chance to show what it can do tomorrow...

Try to figure out what you last changed in your system before your score dropped!
