Default Kubuntu does not detect my tv-out

I have Kubuntu Edgy installed on my system (Abit AB9 Pro, E6600 C2D, Asus GT7600 graphics card). It's up-to-date and the Nvidia 1.0-9746 driver works fine (or so it seems)...

In the system menu -> Nvidia X server settings the 'detect displays' does not do anything. In a previous setup (different driver), it would detect the TV just fine. I then followed both methods in the Ubuntu wikis, but neither results in a picture on the TV. The monitor keeps working fine though. In XP, the TV-out works, so the setup should be alright.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

How do I start logging X with the -- -logverbose 6 option? X starts automatically at boot, so I did cntrl-alt-backspace, then logged into a terminal and stopped the display manager (kdm). But if I then start X with sudo startx -- -logverbose 6 I get errors. Restarting kdm works fine.

In case it might be useful anyway, I attached the bugreport without extensive logging. I think these lines in Xorg.0.log are showing the problem:

(WW) NVIDIA(1): Option "UseDisplayDevice" requested "TV", but no unused TVs
(WW) NVIDIA(1): are available.
(II) NVIDIA(1): Option "UseDisplayDevice" "TV" converted to "".
(WW) NVIDIA(1): Unable to find any of the requested display device "" in the
(WW) NVIDIA(1): list of available display devices "".

The problem here is that the TV isn't being detected. You can try adding the following option to the Device section which corresponds with your TV:
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"

You'll need to post a new bug report.

Does this problem persist if you're using Twinview instead of separate X screens?

Yes, it does. I fiddled a bit with the settings; attaching a bugreport where Twinview should be enabled, just as an example.

Also tried a dual head setup... same thing: the log complains no devices are detected for screen 1 (the TV).

For Twinview, please add the following option:
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT,TV"

Also, why are you using the NoPowerConnectorCheck option?
