Haha, wow. Didn't expect that response from you a12ctic. Oh wait, no, that's the exact response I expected.

I'd say go with the quad core. You can never have too many cores!

The quad is simply two prime x6800 cores on one die so, for only an extra $100, it almost seems foolish to go with the dual core. And, the OC difference? Well, most of the quads can do 3.6 to 3.7 and the x6800 is more like 3.8 to 3.9. The big thing is temps on the quad and the FSB limitations versus the dual core. But, I can live with that.

Go Quad, but get a server board and go dual quad or quad quad.

I'd go for X6800 now cause it's $150 cheaper and perform better in games (gaming is all I do with the rig in my sig), and upgrade to quad + DDR3 + new mobo when Intel releases its 45nm native quads clocked over 3ghz at stock later this year.

However, if you plan to do a lot of work, multitaking, etc, on your computer, then you might benefit from a QX6700 now, but since you're not going to purchase until a few months later, you should probably wait for the 45nm quads which should be here Q3 2007, and maybe get a 1333 FSB E6850 while you wait, which should be out late Q1.

No, it's 2 E6700 on 2 dies.

Probably Intel chipset based board, though I heard people achieving stable 500FSB with the p5n32-e from Asus. I'm waiting for newer bios before I attempt to push my FSB.

Hey guys, I am running my QX6700 on an Intel Bad Axe 2 motherboard. Right now I am voltage limited as I don't want to add any additional juice to my chip until I get my Tuniq Tower reseated. At the stock 1.35 volts, all I can get Quad Prime stable is 3.2 Ghz. Not too sure what the board and chip are capable of with some extra volts.

I would say just wait till they improve the quad cores and the prices drop a little bit. E6600's OC pretty much just as well as X6800s. Save 500 bucks and get an 6600.
