Default Re: QX6700 or X6800?

I think it was a "or" question, not "and". But, the E6600 I have does 3.8 GHz on air, but that is more luck of the draw. The x6800 and qx6800 are binned parts and the unlocked multi is nice to have.

As for games, the x6800 is no faster than a qx6700 unless you are talking stock speeds. I had both, and clock for clock, they are the same. The big difference is tuning. Since you can run higher FSB with a dual core, there is more potential with that route, but, under 1200 FSB, they are basically the same.

So can anyone run the QX6700 stable at over 3.2GHz? I remember that with my E6700 3.5GHz was a sweet spot introduced to me by jAkUp. It needed a ton of voltage, but it was well worth it IMO.

No, there're not the same according to the reviews I've read. Even a E6700 @ 2.66GHZ stock beats the QX6700 @ same stock speed in most games. There's no reason to go quad right now unless you run a lot of multithreaded apps, really.

I say go quad too, but certainly not the QX6700 or Q6600.

HeavyH20 runs his at like 3.73GHz w/ the Coolit Feezone if I'm not mistaken. So if you're lucky you can probably clock the quad reasonably high.

However, I don't think quad is the answer, I think you need to move to 8 cores. Dual Quad Xeons and some $900 intel server mobo will serve you well...along with 16GB of FB-Dimms .

lol jk, if you're paying $1000 for a processor, you have to get the quad. X6800 is only a little cheaper, so it seems like a rip off to me.

I only paid $785 for my x6800, and if waited a few weeks I could have gotten one for $750.

No, native Quad is the future, QX6700 is not native.

Well that depends on what you do with your computer.

Are you serious with this? 2 extra cores for 15$ more?

There's no way the X6800 is a better buy right now. Especially if Crysis comes out in June as planned and is quad-core optimized.
