Come on OWA you have to feel bad for the video game retailers in Japan. They stocked up big time on PS3's because they were under the impression that the PS3 would be selling like hot cakes. This unfortunately did not happen and now they are sitting on a ton of stock so they have no choice but to sell the system at a reduced price. I wonder if they are even breaking even by selling the 20gb model at $330. (I highly doubt it) I really hope things pick up because competition is what drives this business. I know for a fact that if the 20gb model was selling here in the states for $330 I'd have one at home already.

Well maybe you should give them a loan if you feel so bad for them. 2-3 years ago no one gave a **** about numbers now everyone and there mother is concerned about how much that or this sells. Just play the damn games and let these companies worry about numbers. And this is your second "desperation" so who is desperate again?

You know, this is going to suck most when Sony revises the model a bit. Nothing major like the PS2 Slim, maybe just add a real scaler, fix the 480i problem in backwards compatibility, the Bluray scaling problem, other miscellaneous tweaks and improvements that can't be changed in firmware. Then, people like me who are waiting for the pot to sweeten will have to go through hell to find a newer model when stores have the older model stockpiled and can't get rid of them.

I don't know what Blu-ray scaling problem there is but I wouldn't count Sony out on fixing the "real" scaler just yet.

The only one that seems desperate around here is you since it seems you always reach out to try and validate Sony's short falls. Making references to the Xbox360 whenever you hear anything remotely negative about the PS3 is a desperate move IMO. Anyway enough of this... if you don't like the topic being discussed then ignore the thread...

From what I hear, the Bluray scaling problem is sort of the opposite of the game scaling problem. While games have trouble scaling to 1080i, Bluray has trouble scaling to 720p. Too be honest I haven't looked into it too thoroughly though, just enough to know I don't want a PS3 until I hear that its all good, and there are games I actually want.

The PS3 will outsell the Xbox1 and Xbox360 (in total units produced/sold) in Japan long before the Xbox360 will do the same in the US regarding the PS2 and PS3 total units. Did I just give Sony a new marketing/hype idea? If they will use it, I want royalties.

Back ontopic, I don´t think its all that bad to reduce the price if you can´t empty your inventory. Sure the profit loses get bigger but in the end the total PS3 install base increases and so will the software sales in the mid/long term. The PS3 only needs a few high quality games to gain some momentum and once it does, the profits will come back as well. Not that I care, because I don´t want a PS3 anyway.

Yea but how many TVs are out there that can do 720p and not 1080i? I'm not sure if any even exist but I could be wrong.

The scaling issue should only bother you if you have a 1080i/480p tv. If not then it's not really a problem.

Lets say 1080i looks like crap on my native resolution 720p set? Or just not as good? Or I prefer full frames instead of interlacing? It inhibits my viewing options, and yeah it might be anal, but I'm paying (hypothetically) $600, and I don't want to have to deal with any issues like that.
