Indeed... wanted to watch it in theaters (Christian Bale + Michael Caine + Hugh Jackman + Christopher Nolan directing = greatness).

Yeah, I really liked that one. I do have questions about that movie but I want to watch it again before asking. Anyway, at least I know a couple of people that have seen it now. I wanted to discuss it with some of my friends but none of them had seen it.

Yeah if you have any questions ask... I think I understood the movie for the most part... basically the whole movie is a trick on the viewer.

EDIT: And even though I saw a few of the twists coming, there were some that I did not... and it didn't stop me from enjoying the movie.

Is The Prestige really that good? The commercials made it look so stupid, I thought. I felt like it was a Harry Potter movie with adults instead of teenagers.

It's a suspense type movie with a lot of twists and basically revolves around obsession. It's not really like Harry Potter although the two main characters are magicians.

Below is the product description:

Quote:
Award-winning actors Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson star in THE PRESTIGE, the twisting, turning story that, like all great magic tricks, stays with you. Two young, passionate magicians, Robert Angier (Jackman), a charismatic showman, and Alfred Borden (Bale), a gifted illusionist, are friends and partners until one fateful night when their biggest trick goes terribly wrong. Now the bitterest of enemies, they will stop at nothing to learn each other's secrets. As their rivalry escalates into a total obsession full of deceit and sabotage, they risk everything to become the greatest magician of all time. But nothing is as it seems, so watch closely. And be prepared to watch it again and again.

I skipped it in the theater but am glad I grabbed it on bluray, great film and amazing transfer.
Besides David Bowie is awsome as Nikolai Tesla and Andy Serkis as his assistant.

OWA: I hope you realize that a lot the movie's you have bought on Blu-ray (such as Aeon Flux and Babel) have a much lower encoding for it's audio track than the HD DVD version does. Paramount encodes all of it's movie's audio tracks at 1.5mbps for HD DVD and a measly 640kbps for Blu-ray.

Heh, going through two 10W speakers (or wireless headphones attached to the audio out on the TV), I doubt I'll notice a difference.

If I ever get a real/standalone HD DVD player I'll probably give it more consideration.

You may not notice now but why rebuy what you already have when you can do it right the first time?

Heh, I really don't want 3 copies of a lot of them so I won't rebuy them.

After you mentioned what Paramount was doing, I checked hidefdigest but they usually gave the same audio marks on Paramount titles even when the bitrate was lower (basically saying they weren't happy Paramount was doing that but they didn't really notice a difference -- the Babel review, for example). To tell you the truth though, it wasn't something I even thought about checking when purchasing them.

BTW, some Paramount titles offer DTS at 1.5mbps (like Aeon Flux, for example). Shouldn't that be just as good?
