HDMI Problem with Asus m2npv-vm

Hi guys, I'm trying to use the DVI output of my Asus m2npv-vm motherboard (GeForce 6150) to my TV using a DVI to HDMI cable.

The problem I'm having is that no matter what, the resolution is always 640 x 480. No matter what I put in my xorg.conf.

If I use the RGB connectot of the motherboard instead, connecting to the RGB connector of the TV, it works as expected.

I have tested the DVI to HDMI cable using another system with a separated graphic card and the cable is ok and it works in any resolution.

I even added the option:

Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"

To the device section of xorg.cong and it didn't do anything.

I'm using Fedora Core 6 with nvidia drivers 9746.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

1. What were you trying to run your screen at over HDMI

2. Have you tried running "startx -- -logverbose 6" and taking a look at the output.

There is a chance that your TV only supports some strange resolutions.

Hi Steve, thanks for your help.

To be honest I don't even know much where to look at, I sort of started looking at the log files at the section where the chip starts probing different resolutions, and then decides which ones to get rid of. How it decides what to use and what not to use is beyond me.

Here are both the files I generated with the option -logverbose 6, one is the RGB log, which works fine for me, just included it as a comparison.

The other one is DVI log, which doesn't work for me, well it does, at 640x480!

It seems that you need to use the option IgnoreEDID and set the hsync and vrefresh manually.

Please try adding the following to the Device section of xorg.conf:
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "true"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoDFPNativeResolutionCheck"

Note, you should not disable use of the EDID.

Now I have DVI output in in resolutions other than 640x480 yayyyyyyyy!

Could you comment a bit more on why we might need these two options as I have a lot of issues setting up DVI/HDMI customers at present.

The meaning & intended usage of those options is discussed in the driver README. Beyond that, I'm not sure that I understand your question.
