Heh, I already get quite a bit of hitching and loading, I don't know if I should push it anymore.

I kind of wonder if something isn't right though, because I don't remember it hitching this much before and I think it even did it with a fresh install of the game. I wish there was some way to tweak the loading so that it streamed more smoothly rather than loading big chunks every 50 feet.

i get hitching with plain old vanilla oblivion.nothing crazy though it's just the way the game is i guess

ini tweaks help abit but the load hitches where always there.

I'm seriously considering getting a pair of Raptor X drivers in a RAID 0 to see if they can reduce the hitching. The hitching really isn't acceptable, especially when I'm running from an OOO Frost Titan that wants to turn me into a puddle.

Yeah I get a few hitches here and there but really not any worse than with the QTPIII. FPS are about the same, if you have a bit of spare power on it really does look amazing. You can pull them in and out all you want. I'm really liking the look it has now. Sorry I moved from the CaptNKill BT, these are just so freakin sick.

Haven't played Oblivion in a while but I'm definitely gonna try this out. Hopefully performance is somewhat decent.

Heh, I haven't used my textures in a while. I prefer the look of the newer packs.

I kind of wish some of the newer packs would have had at least a little bit of credit to me thrown in there though. They all talk about everyone else's "non tiling" texture packs when I know that two of those people asked to use my textures to base theirs off of.

Oh well. Its not a big deal.

Well I got this mod installed on my new QX6700-based PC that has 2X8800GTX and along with Qarl's 4096 normal maps and a 4096 LOD installation the game looks fantastic. The frame rate are very playable at 1920x1200 resolution with most of the sliders maxed out but I noticed my texture memory usage creeps up as I fast travel to various areas. Initially its in the 600MB range. As soon as I go elsewhere it get close to 800MB and up to 1000MB. At this point the frame rates take a nose dive as I am out of video memory. I noticed once I get to that point I can sometimes get the texture usage back down if I save the game and then reload it. I tried installing smaller texture versions of the LOD packs and dropping down on my AA/AF levels but my texture memory usage will start to crawl up again after a while regardless of how low it is when I start. When I get home I will see if dropping my resolution down a bit helps. I love these mods so I would prefer to keep them.

I am using the following console commands to check my texture usage:
SETDEBUGTEXT 13
TDT

Anyone know of any way to clear the texture memory? I tried some of the .ini tweaks around the internet but I get a feeling its an issue with either my 97.92 drivers or the game itself. For what its worth my rig crushes the other games I have installed so far, FEAR and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

Alt-tab clears the texture memory because it restarts D3D but Im not sure if alt-tab works in Oblivion.

Use the console command "pcb" to purge the texture memory in game. You can also do a search for HTF's PCB mod (specifically the extended_new version), which will do this automatically in game. It does require Oblivion Script Extender to run.

Wow thanks - this is exactly what I need hopefully. I sure hate to give up my visual upgrades.

Well I tried the cell buffer mod and it helped a bit but I decided to start from scratch an reintall the game and mods, especially since the game kept crashing on me on exit. Because of this any changed I made in game for performance would not save and I had only the .ini to work with.

I finally found that OOO (Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul) was making my game crash, even after installing the patches for it. I am not sure if that was part of the problems with my frame rates but the game runs a lot better now. The major IQ mods I have installed now are TPIII+Qarl's4096LODnormals+BTQ2048LOD. I tried the 4096LODs but I did not notice enough of a difference with my eyes to justify the texture usage. I did try the almost everything mod but that but that was a bit much on my video memory.

I can now run the game at 1920x1200 with 16xAF/4xAA and have the grass distance, specular distance, and view distance maxed out. My frame rates fluctuate some but the lowest I have seen so far are just under 20FPS in ares where I was getting single digits at times before. Now I need to get my new character some levels, do the Knights of the Nine mission, and get ready for Shivering Isles.
