I got a used GF2 MX 200 from a friend, and I'm not sure if the card is broken or if I have a driver problem.
The system is debian unstable, with the latest kernel (2.6.18). I compiled and installed the kernel module, and installed the drivers. The drivers load just fine, and glxinfo says "Direct rendering: Yes". But hw accelerated 3d does just not work. 2d acceleration seems to work. I tried different resolution/depth combinations but it didn't work in any of them. 3d apps are obviously not hardware accelerated, glxgears shows well under 100 fps. Is the driver supposed to echo "Direct rendering enabled" or something into the X log file? I don't see such a line there, although I do see "(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Architecture Initialized" and "(II) Initializing extension GLX" there. I have no prior experience with the nvidia driver, but I read the docs and I don't think I did anything wrong. glxinfo output: Quote:

A GF2 MX 200 is a fairly low end GPU, and glxgears is not a useful benchmark. Which real world applications aren't performing up to expectations?
Also, please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log. Thanks, Lonni |

Oopsie. Actually, at least last I checked, real-life 3d apps work correctly, so sorry about forum clutter. I checked with ppracer earlier, and it didn't work, but it must have been a xorg.conf configuration issue, and I went through xorg.conf with the help file and made the suggested changes. Didn't check with anything else than glxgears after the changes, so my mistake.
Thanks. |
