I ran into this old archived thread on the AVS forum specifically about your Toshiba component. Some interesting issues with this unit, and some folks having the same HDMI problem as you are.

thanks for the find. I will have to look at the player and the cable to see if any pins are out of whack first. Then I can look into that system reset.
