Hello,

nouveau is a good idea, maybe it could turn in something also usable for a good 2d support in linux :-) Sofar, the best result in 2d under linux I have found was with a Matrox G450 (G550 wasn't as good) in term of quality, but of course not in term of acceleration (well, xmga isn't that bad if your video are smaller than 1024x1024). |

The future is open programmable chips like x86 architecture. AMD is talking about merging CPU and GPU so it could be one chip with open, common register and instruction list.
