Default Re: E6600 @ 3.4

Well I finally got mine to post and load Vista at 3.6ghz, 401X9. I had to up my P5B-E to 1.50V (Everest says the core is at 1.325 so I don't know exactly) and it is running in the low 40's at idle and low 50's at load.

I can't get my memory (Corsair xms2 6400) to go much over 800mhz... so I'm going to give someone a deal on it on craigslist and move on to some Crucial Ballistix.

My E6600 is 100% stable @ 3.6 (400x9), 1.4875v. Mid to high 40s running dual F@H or dual 32m SuperPi. The longest I've left Orthos run is a shade over six hours and max temps were 55c/56c.

At 3.2 (400x8) it runs on stock voltage and during dual F@H or SuperPi it maxes out at 41c/42c. It would make sense to just run at at this speed, but I don't see it as gaining 800 mhz, but more like losing 400!

BTW, this on water with a naked CPU (ihs removed).

My E4300 loves voltage and doesn't half heat up 1.65v to get to 3.4Ghz but my nForce 680i chipset gets very hot. PWR's is like 96C under load and will crash!!! Need to get some chipset fans. At the moment my board as no active cooling. @ 1.5v i am at 3.2Ghz and my chipset is 76C underload. Then again my CPU is rated for 1.8GHz.

Isn't PWR your power supply temperature? If so, I'd replace that thing ASAP. Nothing in your system should be hitting 96C, let alone something with as many large volatile components as a power supply.

This is an ABIT board these are the voltage regulators as i have PWR1 to 5 as the board is 5 phase 1 & 2 run the hotest @ Vcore 1.5v they are 76C 1.6v they are 96C and seem to crash could be the CPU doesn't like the voltage. The PSU produces pretty much no heat. But increasing the CPU voltage greatly increases the phase power regulators heat so need either a CPU fan with downward airflow or get a couple of 40mm fans for the nForce 680i board as it does get abit warmer then what i like. But don't really think it will cool the PWR's

Was thinking of the GigaByte 3D Watercooler as it has a PWR fan on the waterblock which is cool. Too bad the high end Dangfer dan etc don't

Very nice results!
47 load eh? @ 3.5 that is pretty great.

Also, you should almost definitely be able to tighten up those memory timings. CL4 @ ~1000mhz is attainable on my sticks... I assume yours are higher binned than mine.

What am I missing... I see 35 idle and 56C load at 3.5 (still not too bad for orthos).

Yeah, CoreTemp's probably not reading correctly. I don't even get 47C under load on water. 56C sounds more reasonable for a Blend test.

Chipset fans, I just used the fans and chunked the heatsink. The memory fans are corsair fans from newegg.
