Default Vista won't shutdown

I recently moved to vista and i'm having a weird problem. Whenever I goto shutdown it begins to logoff then turns of the video but the pc won't fully shut down. My fans and lights are still going. I either have to hit the reset button then hit the power button during POST to turn it off or hold the power button down for it to fully shut off. I did not have these problems with XP.

Are you clicking on the Start menu power button instead of clicking on the arrow and selecting Shutdown? The power button defaults to sleep mode. If you go into Power Options in Control Panel and then go into the advanced options for whatever power saving mode you're using you can change that behaviour.

Nope I am selecting shutdown manually. It is also doing the same thing if I choose reset. So neither shut down nor reset works. I also already changed the power setting to never use sleep or hybrid sleep.

You may want to check your event log to see if a driver, process, or utlity is hanging during shutdown.

You might also want to check if there's a BIOS update available for your motherboard. Like nekrosoft13 mentioned, it could be an ACPI issue.

You're not the only one with a 680i and that same problem.

Are you running the latest and greatest BIOS?
