I am using 8776 driver from ubuntu repos.. "nvidia-glx"..This is a downgrade from the latest 9746 which was also giving me this problem.. I thought it was solved for a couple days but no, its happening again..

This is driving me CRAZY. I'm ready to switch to an ATI card if I dont get some kind of straight answer. I was havin the same problem on my asus laptop until I Upgraded my bios, then it stopped. SO I upgraded my bios on my gaming computer (Intel MOBO: D865PERL) . Well that didnt seem to solve it.

I am infuriated right now b/c I haven't been able to play this game actually since I've upgraded to Edgy which is when this problem become much much more apparent. This is all the information I have about my end. Thanks

I'm getting this error as well, and it didn't happen before I upgraded to edgy either. It makes me wonder where this problem is coming from, maybe the ubuntu kernels are messed up somehow?

Most Likely something like that they changed in the Kernel that is affecting us (a small group of users)..

I'm really considering down-grading to Dapper...which sucks b/c there are alot of good things in edgy..Maybe switch from ubuntu all together... I heard ArkLInux is pretty nice..

EDIT: Err ArchLinux rather..

Would help a great deal.

Xid's are not a bug in of themselves, they represent a class of problem, and not even neccesarily a driver bug.

If you'd like further assistance, you should start here:

I just switched over to archlinux, they use a much newer kernel than ubuntu,.. not sure if this will fix my problem or not but im going to test it out today and see if I get this error.. It shouldn't take long to find out.

Why don't you just try compiling a newer kernel yourself???

It is surely a whole lot easier than switching distro altogether..

Most distros like to stick with the same kernel and only post security fixes for a long time. I think that is a joke since each kernel fixes lots of issues and adds new features. Anyway it is quite easy to roll your own kernel. For Ubuntu you might want to install kernel-package and read /usr/share/doc/kernel-package/HOWTO-Linux-2.6-Woody.

Well, unfortunately switching to Arch didn't solve the problem. Even though I do like this distro better than ubuntu... I'd consider compiling a new kernel if I knew that would help at all, but it doesn't really seem like it's going to, furthermore I wouldn't know what to keep in our take out of the kernel to make things better.

I think I'm just going to buy a new video card, ..sigh..,

Anyway here is the bug report file, if it will help any.. . I read another topic on here related to NVRM Xid's and the person mentioned this BIOS-e820 thing, which I have seen in my kernel log, he fixed this by disabling ACPI In his bios, but in my BIOS I can only select two states for ACPI.. S1 or S3.. I cannot disable it.?

You can disable ACPI by booting with the acpi=off kernel parameter.

I have a few questions:
0) Why are you using the ConnectedMonitor option? Does removing it have any impact?
1) Does this problem persist if you're not using the Composite extension and/or the Triplebuffer option?
2) If you set NvAGP to 0 in xorg.conf, does that have any impact on the problem?
3) Specifically which motherboard are you using, and which BIOS version?

Thanks,
Lonni

0) I just added this recently hoping it would solve a metamode issue I was having with getting the game to fullscreen on only one monitor. However removing it bares no signifigance to the issue.

1) Haven't really tested.
2) ^^^^^

Im using the latest bios "P21" I beleive it is named. The problem was happening pre-BIOS-upgrade, and hoping to eradicate teh problem i upgraded the BIOS, clearly, I still have the problem.

Tonight I will try disabling ACPI by boothing with the kernel param you provided me with. If this fails, I will try your Xorg suggestions and report back in either case of the results.
Thanks
