Yes that's normal. Who REALLY knows why, but I'm guessing something to do with where the 2 cores are compared to where/how the HSF sits.

I am currently running an x2 3800+ [2.0stock] @ 2.8ghz using 1.52v and it passed dual prime over 12 hours before I stopped it. I just got an Opty 165 CCBBE 0615 EPMW. The previous owner ran 2880mhz@1.42v. He hasn't put anymore voltage through the cpu than 1.44. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that I'll be able to hit 3.0 with it around 1.5v.

I am currently waiting for my new coolant to get here so I can flush my watercooling system.

With the x2 my temps are idle: 22C and load: 35C

Looking forward to playing with that Opty in its new board. A nf4 SLI-DR Expert.

You'll love it. I'm loving this Opty- except for the temps. I can't oc at all with it this hot. Hopefully I'll get it figured out before too much longer.

Infact, I've even thought of just running it at 2Ghz- that should bring the temps down considerably- and it'd be about the equivalent of an X2 3800 which is a huge jump over what I was previously running anyways.

I've got FEAR running in the background, and I've been playing for about an hour- temps haven't breached 50*C yet according to CoreTemp. I can handle this for now. I want it cooler though so I can oc!

Hey all new guy here. I am getting the Opty 185. It is on its way to me thru Newegg. I should have it tomorrow. (Thursday)

Anyway my system will be the following.

Opty185
DFI Expert Mobo
Rosewill 600w PSU
74g Raptor
250g WD HDD
DVD Burner
DVD Reader
7950GX2
GSkill PC4000 2g (1gx2)

I'll be using the stock cooler for the time being as I am sure that stock is fine cause I'll not be overclocking at the moment. But I'll problee overclock just to see how far I can take it.

Since we have another who has the 185 maybe we can help each other with info from benches and heat.

First off, welcome!

The AS5 should be here by Friday at the latest. I'm gonna' lap my heatsink to my TT CLP-0114 (or what ever that beast of a HSF is called ) Friday when the AS5 arrives. Then I'll re-install it and see if that helps my temps any. I'm hoping it does. For now it barely breaches 50*C under load so I'm not terribly concerned. I just want to oc but with these temps I can't. Oh well, in time I guess.

Welcome.

Except for the heat I'm loving my 185. This thing is a beast. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well. Keep us posted as to how it works for ya'.

Okay, the AS5 arrived yesterday. I probably wont get to lap the HS and such till tomorrow- as the lady and I will be spending some time today.

Anyhow, just out of curiosity- what do you guys think of this cooler:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...734&CatId=1997

Would that be a good buy? If you think so, I very well might get it. Furthermore, I'm strongly considering getting this as well:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...7840&CatId=332

This Opty (if I can get the heat down) and that Thermaltake cooler of mine would go in the tower and mobo that comes with that barebones- and the FX-60 would go in my current rig with that Ultra TEC cooler.

What do you guys think? Yay? Nay? I've even just considered returning this Opty if the temps don't go down for a refund- then taking that refund and getting an FX-60 from TigerDirect.

Anyhow, I'm not giving up on this Opty just yet. Probably tomorrow I'll lap the HS and then reinstall the heatsink with the AS5. I'm also gonna' do some "repositioning" of the fans for more optimal airflow to see if that will help. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Oh, and as soon as these temps come down to where they should be- I'm oc'ing like crazy. I'm wanting 3Ghz atleast per core. Here's hoping I can pull it off.

Hell, if I could have afforded to buy the FX-60, I would have!

Well, since that is a barebones deal... It will more than likely be there for a little bit longer. I've got some bills that need paying first. But once they are paid and if that barebones combo is still there and going for that price... it's all minez!

I'm still curious about that Ultra TEC cpu cooler- any input on it? Is it worth that hefty price tag?
