Stumbled across this at AVS Forums:

http://cmediadrivers.googlepages.com/

Quote:
This project aims at writing WDM sound drivers for the C-Media 8738 / 8768 chips.

A CMI8738/8768 based soundcard and Windows 2000/XP/Vista are required to run this driver. Due to arbitrary driver signing restrictions, the 64 bit version of Windows Vista is currently not supported although there's a workaround for installing and running the driver. However, they're fully compatible with the 64 bit version of XP and the 32 bit versions of every aforementioned OS.

The latest stable release is 1.0.8 (02/22/07).

One of the key aspects is to support bitperfect digital output through S/PDIF. Currently, this works for 16 bit sound streams with 44.1/48/88.2/96 kHz sample rate using DSound/WaveOut/kernel streaming.

The present version features support for Dolby Digital (AC3)/DTS passthrough, multi-channel audio, recording, full mixer control and UART/MPU-401. Very low latency and high performance recording/playback (WaveRT) is fully supported under Windows Vista.

The source code of the driver is distributed under the terms of the BSD license. If you want to compile the driver from the source code, you need a current version of the Windows Driver Development Kit.

If you have suggestions for enhancements or bug fixes, please let me know:
