DX10 Demo: Cascades available for download!!!

I had given up on DX10 demos. Guess I will DL it and see what's up.

I was just about to ask about FRAPS.

I can't get it to show a FPS overlay with this demo, and the bench function doesn't work either.

Well ojectively it runs smooth @ 1680x with 4x AA 16 x AF and I have no way of knowing what my FPS is currently.

20 - 30 FPS, but if a demo can only run at 20-30 what is a game going to do? I thought DX10 was so efficient that everything was going to be faster? Add to that the 15-20% drop you get just by running a 3d app in Vista vs. XP and I'm really not impressed with the whole situation.

This just proved to me that the 8800s will not be enough for DX10 games that are coming and that Vista / DX10 isn't all it's cracked up to be.

How do you manage to know the fps on the demo? Fraps does not work for me.

Why? Luna run at 40 fps on NV40, and games never had any problems

It runs OK for me. Nice on the eye. The color changing option is nice

40 fps for Luna? 20 - 30 fps for Cascades... these are not numbers I can game with comfortably. Granted Crysis might be optimized and run better than a simple tech demo...we can only hope.

Your right about demos and games being quite different. Usually the demos run a very high speeds since there is only a few things going on - not nearly as much as in a game. Demos should run smoothly as they are a technical preview of what is to come. If anything under 40 fps is to come I certainly wont be happy as that is not acceptable. And if the point of DX 10 was the efficiency I fail to see that as well. Any performance increase DX10 will provide will be negated by the fact that Vista is just so sluggish and bloated.

Demos are meant to stress the hardware and normally tax the system more than a game will. But whatever, you seem to be here just to whine so have at it.

Im not whining, I guess any opinions here that dont reflect yours are just whining. Interesting. This demo can't stress hardware more than a game. It's a big ****ing rock spinning with water??? Have you guys just been looking at screenshots or actually tried it? Its a ****ing rock with water running down.. whoopdedooo. Its no FEAR or Crysis.

Also, in one of the driver threads, you end up calling a post stupid because the guy was happy with a particular driver and decided to stand pat. So, who is it that can't tolerate any other opinions? I don't know, just makes me think the R600 launch must be close.

I think this is one of the more impressive demos Nvidia has released.

Lots of settings to play with, excellent use of bump mapping and parallax mapping, great overall performance (though it slows down a lot when you get real close to the waterfalls) and the whole randomly generated terrain thing is pretty damn cool.

The water physics are pretty awesome as well.

Has it been confirmed (by nvidia) that all of the graphics and physics are being done by the video card?
