The water physics are pretty awesome as well.

Has it been confirmed (by nvidia) that all of the graphics and physics are being done by the video card?

Apparently yes. http://www.geisswerks.com/ryan/whatsnew-graphics.html demo creator

Cascades runs on Vista using DirectX 10. The cool thing about this demo is that the CPU is virtually idle. Everything happens on the GPU. The polygons for the rock are actually *created* (and streamed out to a vertex buffer) all on the GPU, using marching cubes. In the particle system for the water, particles are emitted, propagated, and destroyed on the GPU using a geometry shader. Collision with the rock (and sliding along it) all happens on the GPU, and particles can even spawn other particles (mist) when they hit the rock.

Wow that is REALLY impressive.

Thats what we need though, more stuff being done on the GPU if possible, since the GPU load can be changed (resolution, graphics settings etc) where as the CPU intensive parts of most games are just there and can't be changed (which means if it doesnt run good, its never going to unless you upgrade your CPU).

I believe they said the A.I. for the bugs is even done on the GPU... can anyone confirm this?

Roger that: Taken from http://www.geisswerks.com/ryan/whatsnew-graphics.html

There are some cool bug critters flying around; their flocking behavior is driven fully by the GPU, so they can avoid hitting the rock. They're also drawn using instancing, so (virtually) one single draw call draws them all.

Not without Dx10 on WinXP.

Obviously you don't understand what exactly is going on in the demo.

You can't look at it as a "rock"

Its a Rock that uses predicted geometry, with fully GPU accelerated A.I. and real time water physics.

Plus the demo runs great for me. 1920x1200 with 4x/16x and it runs about 30-40fps.
