Default Nvidia 8776/9746 with 2.6.20-rc5

hi all, I have just compiled the new 2.6.20-rc5 kernel, and with it I installed 8776/9746(using 8776 because there's something wrong with beryl) drivers. There's no error/warning during the compilation(of course for 8776 a patch has to be applied), but when I start a 3D
program such as a game/beryl desktop, from time to time something is corrupted on the screen.
The following picture shows an corruption example that will always happen in the game savage.
For beryl this bug/flaw happens more rarely but with the similar appearance as having these lines/rectangles in white or black.

I know there's probably something wrong with the kernel config options I made or some pitfalls I haven't known, I just want some clue here, anyone can help me?

Does this problem persist if you're not using the Composite extension?

Additionally, please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log against 1.0-9746 after this problem has reproduced.

Thanks,
Lonni

I'm not clear on whether this reproduces without the Composite extension in X?

Also:
0) Was this bug report generated while the corruption was present?
1) Have you verified that you're using the latest BIOS for the system?

Thanks,
Lonni

Sorry about my English, yes, this bug report is generated when the corruption is present, using the diver 9746. without the compiz
extension in X.

And for BIOS system I'm not sure. I haven't touched my BIOS and I'm eager to learn. Where should I read about altering this?
Btw, my laptop is Dell D620 with nvidia Quodra 110m.

You'd need to check Dell's website for a newer SBIOS.

Tried it again, still corrupted.
I have updated the BIOS to A07(current version on Dell official site)
Using driver 9746, without compiz extension.

The following is a bug report with savage running, corrupted.

Hi,all , my problem still haven't been solved, I poked around and found no clue.
Today I compiled the 2.6.20-rc6 and the problem is still there.
So I just wonder if there's something wrong with my kernel configuration setting.

Included is my .config file.

for a short version, I configured nvidia framebuffer support and nvidia Riva support both as M(module)
Should I instead change those to Y(not module)?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

OK, I have found my mistake here in the kernel configuration:

Required Kernel Settings
Note: If you built your kernel with genkernel, you should be able to skip this section.

Make sure you have the following options enabled:
Linux Kernel Configuration: Kernel Configuration

Loadable Module Support --->[*] Enable Loadable Module Support
Processor Type and Features --->[*] MTRR (Memory Type Range Register) Support

AGP support is optional, dependent on your type of graphics card:
Linux Kernel Configuration: Kernel Configuration

Device Drivers --->
Character devices --->[*] /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)

Make sure you have the following options disabled. These options conflict with nVidia's driver:
Linux Kernel Configuration: .config

Device Drivers --->
Graphics Support --->
< > nVidia Framebuffer Support
< > nVidia Riva support

If you need help configuring, building, and installing your new kernel, read the official Gentoo kernel guide.

I hope this works, I'm testing on it.
